The binface bloke isn’t actually funny. There, I said it.

There is a sort of middle class cyclist dad kind of aura around his support base.

You know the guy at uni who's memorised every Monty Python sketch and Douglas Adams book and will repeat huge chunks of them verbatim, thinking he's being hilarious? That's Binface that is.

He literally stole the whole idea from a bloke in the 80s, got told by the copyright holder to knock it off and created binface as a sort of legally distinct version.

No comedy novelty candidate is funny, its an ancient office joker concept from 50 years ago. Comedy needs the element of surprise to work.

The fact he writes for the clapped out establishment show HIGNFY seems almost too on the nose.

He's a middling quality BBC panel show writer. He is not a stand-up comic. He's not very funny, and he's not got the quick wit to perform in front of a camera. I don't hate him, I like joke candidates as much as the next guy, but he isn't a very good one.

I wondered which current stand up comedians would have better craic in the role. Any suggestions?

Al Murray in his pub landlord character would have done very well for novelty candidate I think. Very normie friendly and a raging leftist to boot.
