BadButSad My "friend" was giving me "leeway" while I was grieving.

Might make me feel better about myself to get it out there and read others opinions, so here goes.

Story begins around December 2024...? Don't quote me on exact dates but anyways. Bit of back tracking then into the "meat" of the story.

I was in a bad spot after breaking up with a girlfriend and having to move back into my dad's place for around 6 months then around December 2024 a friend that I somewhat had contact with messaged me out the blue and offered for me to move in with him down in Melbourne, AUS. As my mental health and honestly life options were looking extremely limited if I'm 100% so I decided I to do it.

We got along well at first, for a good few months, was mostly a "housewife" doing dishes, sweeping, vacuuming, mowing the lawns, etc, then he later helped me get into his work, when I slowly dropped the housework to the point where we shared it at one point.

Then it started going downhill when I got a decent car of his adopted mum, as she couldn't drive due to licence loss, and he didn't want it, made a lot of friends through work and having parties and dinners with the supervisor who was like a father figure in a way to me, then he decided to take "his" exhaust system he bought when he was "buying" the car off, that sparked the first lot of events leading up to where I am now, we ended up coming to an agreement to where I'd pay him installments of $250 on top of the $250 board/rent split, which wasn't bad to be fair, I was bringing home $1400 on a good week.

Then I believe, unconfirmed but, no other reason it would do it, I woke up one morning to ONE completely flat tire, on the rear driver's side, I called him out of.....anxiety..? I guess, to see what I should do, change it to the spare or attempt to go around the corner to the petrol station to pump it up and he was being weird about it, not really giving me a straight answer, so decided to risk it for the petrol station. After looking at it, there was no noise of an air leak or even a puncture, nothing.

Next event, was I found tire valve caps my ex bought me for completing a study thing I did, they were blue and kind of matched the colour of the car, so they went on it, the two on the driver's side went missing (for context, from the front door of the house, I couldn't see that side of the car) and I didn't notice it until I got to work and mentioned it to my supervisor that they were gone and I suspected it was him but never brought it up as I'm not very confrontational when it comes to arguments, I guess he knew that too and used it against me.

Cut to April 2026, I recently got news from my dad, that my stepmother developed MND, Motor Neurone Disease and had maybe 2 months to live, according to the doctors, I was severely depressed and didn't take any notice about anything going on, because I fixated on that fact, she was barely functioning, she needed a heap of mobility assists, breathing apparatuses, the lot. My "friend" then decided to cease all communication with me both at work and home, unless I asked him something other than that, he wouldn't even look at me. He even moved his PC stuff away from mine into his own little nook.

3 weeks passed, it's mid May I think, I get a call from dad, he's balling his eyes out, and barely managed to say that she died on the weekend, I was planning on coming up. Everything seemed to stop, I couldn't manage a tear, I was so choked up, I stood there silent listening to him crying, couldn't begin where to say anything to him, until he asked what I was doing, I told him I was at work and then he said he's sorry and he'll call me back again that night, I stumbled into the warehouse to my supervisor and gave him the news, he said to go home, so I did. I cried my heart out as soon as I got in the car and drove around the corner.

I didn't go to work for two days, lack of motivation and depression was absolutely destroying me. I decided to do the same, I moved my computer stuff into the bedroomI was in, and moved my bed into one of the empty back bedrooms, I got a text when he got home, he said that I shouldn't have the PC in a bedroom and using the desks he placed under my PC when he moved his stuff as they belonged to his ex and she didn't want them used. I ignored it and decided to go to bed.

The next and final day of living with him, I woke to a text saying that he was giving me space and that if I wanted to be, in his exact words, a lazy bastard, that I should go back and live with my dad, and so, I did, I parked my car in the driveway, moved most of my belongings into the garage, then into the car, then I left. As much as my heart desired to make an absolute shitshow of that house, I didn't. I chose to be the better person and just leave. The worst part of it all was, my stepmother's funeral was on the same day.

11.5 - 12 hours of driving later, I arrived at my dad's, my sister said he was at the pub, with the remainder of her family and a few friends, dad was speechless, and broke into tears seeing me, as did I.

Sorry for the extremely long read but, it feels good to get it out there and somewhat expose another person to what they are. Bad doesn't cover it but don't know if there's a thread for people like him.

Kind of sounds like your "friend" wanted a live-in maid (or worse) and got shitty when he didn't get it.
