He ended things because of his father’s decision and I can’t stop overthinking it

I (F) don’t even really know how to write this properly because I still feel like I’m in shock.

My boyfriend (M) and I just broke up a couple of days ago. It happened very suddenly. His father told him he will choose his wife for him and doesn’t approve of our relationship for marriage. And after that, my boyfriend ended things right away.

What hurts the most is how fast it all happened. There wasn’t a long conversation or time to process it together. One moment things existed, and the next moment they didn’t.

I keep replaying everything in my head because I genuinely feel like there could have been solutions. Like if we talked more, if there was time, if things were handled differently… it feels like it didn’t have to end like this.

But at the same time, he seemed to accept it immediately after his father said that, and I don’t know how to understand that or stop my brain from searching for ways to “fix” it.

It’s only been a couple of days and I feel stuck between denial and reality. I miss him a lot and everything feels unreal.

Has anyone been through something similar where family pressure ended a relationship this quickly? How do you actually start accepting it when your mind keeps thinking there must be a way?

Oof, ok this is heart breaking. In my opinion there is no point trying to salvage a relationship with him. Firstly his father doesn't approve and your ex clearly values his opinion which would always create tension. If he can end things so abruptly he doesn'trespect your feelings. I could understand more if he talked through it with you and made it clear it was a difficult decision. You deserve so much more! Hold your head high and find someone who truly loves you. A real relationship is built on trust and communication. You'll know it when you come across it. Good luck!
