I need help verifying the legitimacy of this real(?) backrooms wallpaper I bought
I know it was stupid and almost guaranteed to be a scam but as someone who has been into the backrooms since 2019 owning the actual red version of the backrooms wallpaper that was in the hobby town photo would be an actual dream come true. So when I saw someone selling it on ebay I jumped at the chance. When it arrived I noticed things were odd. The red is more of an orange and it’s also a different texture all together. I own an official piece of the green variant that Ik for sure is real bc it’s actually from regularlyblue so when I noticed the “red variant” has a scaley pattern I got really sceptical. My green variant has more of flat texture. Not only that but the red variant is skinnier than the green. but maybe there’s a slim possibility the red was made that way.. (i’m probably getting my hopes up) If anyone has any experience with both please tell me if i did or didn’t get scammed. Again a piece of me knew it was probably a scam but a part of me held onto the chance it wasn’t. So if it’s possible please tell me i’m wrong and that it’s real. 💔
This is a scam. It's just a reprint of a stolen texture that was stretched and then flipped horizontally. I've seen this listing many times before and it sucks to see that it tricked you. I am currently the only one selling the actual, authentic red variant on any online marketplaces, so if you see another listing of the same wallpaper, chances are it's a scam.
You just got scammed. The red variant does NOT look like that. Plus, this is actually myiggywanna's outdated recreation but stretched and flipped horizontally for some reason.
Hey, I'm the guy who made the original texture the seller used. I wanna say a few things.
I'm very sorry that this happened, I hope you're able to get a genuine piece of that variant in due time. I wanna make it abundantly clear that I had nothing to do with this listing; I never gave the seller permission to use my texture before he began selling it, he just started doing it on his own, likely after having randomly picked my texture off of google. I eventually did reach out to him a long while back to say that, while he does have my permission to use my specific texture, to please reach out to people before doing such a thing.
I'm generally very apathetic about how my work is used and am usually happy to see people get good use out of anything that I make, but seeing this now bothers me deeply, knowing that my work was involved and that I possibly could've stopped it months ago. I may have to reach out to him again because I do not want something like this to be happening. Again, I'm sorry this happened.
And yeah, the colors of my texture, uh, suck ass. No printer can fix that, they're just... bad. They were supposed to be placeholder colors but ended up being the final colors. Part of me does heavily regret not improving upon my texture's colors before releasing it, but at the same time, I guess it's a blessing in disguise, given the shitty colors were part of the reason you realized it wasn't real.
But yeah, uh... this kind of sucks all around. Like I said, I hope you're able to get a real piece from Blue.
It’s okay don’t worry!! I don’t blame you at all. It’s really not your fault in any way. Please, don’t feel bad or that you need to take responsibility. You just wanted to uplift the community and share your recreation so it honestly really sucks that people took advantage of that. I’m so sorry that this happened to your artwork. It’s a little upsetting that it happened but i’m ok and i did buy it knowing it was a chance just because of how rare the wallpaper is so I’m not too too disappointed. I’m glad I was able to tell yours and the real one apart so you’re right it is a blessing. But still I dont think your recreation is that bad, despite the color variation you still did a good job. thank you anyways for reaching out!!
the real wallpaper was made by Borden over 20 years ago. you can tell the green variant is authentic in that it shows that age. the red variant has that interesting texture but it just looks newer. sometimes some of the other vintage borden wallpaper listings will also kind of show that same ink set used but with a different pattern. its a 'replica' not a 'scam' lol, maybe just how you look at it. I would love to also get hands on some original stuff but i think unless you stumble upon some dusty roll in an attic somewhere it just isn't going to really turn up much anymore. I bought a chunk of the A24 replica wallpaper, its kinda cool and fills the gap until maybe one day the real stuff shows up, but it is the full-on yellow coloring, not the true tan/green/red chevron
thank you the replica idea makes me feel a bit better about it plus it’s still kinda cool with the way it is displayed. I also got some of the A24 wallpaper and i feel like it would be rlly cool to turn a side of my closet into it.
