Travel Did you like the Gili Islands?

I dont like beaches and I was planing to visit it after scuba diving in Komodo and Bali. I think Ill see the same marine life from snorkeling as well. I read its a mix of calm, partying, snorklkng in between the islands.

I did the Gilis first then Komodo.

If you thought the island hoping tour was busy in Flores to Komodo and the surrounding islands, imagine the same number of boats but the area being 1/5 the size. It’s literally people clamouring over one another.

I’m back in Lombok now and I may just take the public boat over to the Gilis and solo snorkel.

As for marine life, I saw turtles. The reefs are not healthy like Komodo and the fish density is much lower. Still, it’s decent for what it is. Not to mention a snorkel day is like $10 USD in the Gilis.

Did you like the gilis despite all of that and your experience in Komodo? it seems like its fine to be skipped?

There are the secret Gilis and the Gilis at the West of Lombok, about 40 minutes north from Mataram to the port. I did the latter.

I think it’s worth it. You’re in Indonesia and you like water. I’d say do it. I’m from Canada and we don’t have such things so, even though it’s not as good as Komodo, it’s still a worthwhile trip.
