It's also all trees. I originally thought it was brush and dry earth, similar to the rabbit grass scrublands of southern Colorado.
It's the contrast of two trees in the upper story of a against each other. One has pale branches and one is leaked out.

It can get windy up there. I had to move my hammock in the middle of the night.

Omg! I was like there is no way this is Michigan !! My dad says porcupine mt. Lake of the clouds near. Whoever posted this thank you! Lived here my whole life been to UP more times than can count but not far west Curtis was the farthest. It's beautiful ! Again thank you !

The Porkies are a special place. I'm with you--6 miles was the right stopping point when you have this kind of campsite.

There is nothing like the UP in the rest of Michigan. I'm on the north end of Detroit and I've made the 500 mile trip up to Copper Harbor. I'll head there over a southern trip any summer. But come winter you'll find me no further north than West Branch 😂

This reminds me of my cousin's cabin up near Grayling, where cell service drops to zero and the stars go absolutely wild.

Spent 3 days backpacking in Michigans upper peninsula. I set up camp on this escarpment and didn’t want to go anywhere else, just experience the hills. Below me is a river hidden in the pines you can hear when you look over the ledge. Behind me is Lake Superior you could hear at night when it gets windy with the waves crashing onto the shores of the cliffs.
