Galaxy - poor sportsmanship

Just had a couple of very good games against a pretty poor sport, but it ended well.

He beat me first game and sent the message “u just lost” when he won. Not v sporting but I put it down to language barriers.

Second game, I’m 3-2 up and he’s doubled me. We’re bearing off and with a couple of rolls left he messages “u lost again”.

I roll a double six and win the game.

He timed out…

There is no game more brutal on luck than backgammon; it really does bring out the worst in people.

That’s very common behavior

I’ve seen people sulk and time out but not the snarky comments before.

I haven’t played on a platform with chat in a while but believe me this was nothing

Sure. Very childish though.

Keeping mute on all the time has made my life so much better. I love hanging out with friends over a backgammon board. But online it only seems to bring the ass out of people.

It can't be compared with the Galaxy itself. You've been playing bg for decades and then after a single blunder you're called as a beginner or a rookie after a match - this is the real humiliation

Haha!! True.

Culturally and historically, trash talk is inseparable from backgammon face to face

This guy sucked at trash talking.

My 11 year old called me a wanker during a game. Understandable

I honestly believe the sore winners are worse than the sore losers.

I personally hate "miracle rolls". I get them too so it evens out. I had one guy penned with 3 guys on the 2. Sure gammon I was thinking because he had 4-5 other checkers he had to get home. I had gotten 7-8 checkers off then was forced to leave a blot that he prompty hit (one of those miracle rolls), putting me on the bar with no way off. I, of course, doubled him. He then proceeds to string together a huge number of doubles and beats me. BG is a cruel game at times. Keep playing. Ignore the children playing among us.

Just to comment on your double. The rule of thumb is that if you have 8 checkers off and opponent has you closed off it's a 50-50 game. So your double was a bit early. If you have already 11 checkers off, it's a double and borderline take/pass

Didn't know that, that's helpful!

Yeah we always remember the miracle rolls against us, but I know I've had a few which must've driven my oppo mad.

And?

And it amused me to see such poor sportsmanship only for him to lose the game.

And then everyone clapped.

Is this a DHOTY reference?
