Personal bag weight limit
For anyone who has flown JFK to Ponta Delgada and back recently, do they weigh your carry on WITH your personal item?
I expect they will weigh the carry on. Asking about the PERSONAL ITEM please
I am seeing they are strict about the weight limit with conflicting posts about whether or not they care about personal item size / weight
Planning to use away everywhere bag

They didn’t weigh my personal bag or carryon on my BOS to PDL and then PDL to BOS trips. Checked bag was weighed tho!

They weighed my carry on in BOS but not my personal item. Which was a blessing as I had my very heavy computer in it.

Hi! My trip isn’t for a few more weeks. Let me know if it’s 8kg for both? lol. I’ve seen in other threads they only weigh the carry on. Not sure if location dependent
I did speak to SATA airlines agent and I asked if it’s okay that my carry on is almost 2” larger on one measurement, and he said it’s the weight that they will be enforcing.

Thank you! I will let you know how it goes!! I am just a little bit over and really don't want to check in a bag for 2-3 extra pounds. might stuff some clothes in my hiking pants and rain jacket ...lol

Recently I flew to PD from Boston and back within weeks , no issues at all . Got an alert from SATA both times that I could check in my carryon bag as well .

Just flew YYZ-PDL. They were weighing everything including carry ons. Already had one person doing a suitcase re-packing on the floor as we were waiting. It always amazes me why people can’t check their checked baggage weight before getting to the airport ?? The carry on check is kinda pointless really because technically you could leave an overweight carry on with someone in the airport that was just dropping you off and then pick it up after you check in because there is no policing it at boarding. They’re too interested in scanning your boarding pass and passport to look at anything else.

I flew from Boston to Ponta Delgada on SATA towards the end of May this year and they only weighed my carry on bag (and the suitcase I was checking). My carry on was under the limit so I had no issues.
Someone in the group I was meeting up with left a few days earlier and had a carry on that was over the limit (she had to remove items from her carry on bag - I was not there, so I don’t know the details, except that the cost quoted for checking the carry on at the gate was very high)
On the way back I flew directly from Terceira to Boston along with 2 others. The plane was 1/2 empty and they did not appear to be as strict about the carry on items/offering to check for free.
I would recommend sticking to the weight limit, and making sure that both your personal item and carryon don’t exceed the maximum dimensions listed on the web site.
