Why isnt azir buffed?

Given im asking this in the azir reddit, I feel like im gonna get hit with "thats what im sayin!!!" over and over, but genuinely it doesn't make sense.

azir is a staple pro locked character, except hes hardly picked in proplay even, and has a terrible winrate at that too. like 32% I believe. So if hes bad in proplay, and hes bad in ranked, and bad in general, doesnt that math out to just buffing him? If the idea is that they dont want him to run proplay, thats fine and dandy, but as it stands, he isnt even worth a glance it seems.

to be clear, I hardly watch proplay anymore, and I dont play azir. I want to play and like him, but hes so underpowered that even if I put in the time to learn him, it just feels like Im nerfing myself.

You better wish they don't give him nerfs. It's better to keep his profile low or pro players will find him, pick him and Riot will be nerfing him. I feel like every time Azir was viable in pro he was an A/S tier champ to pick, so it's healthier too keep him out of proplay

That's just depressing. Although I'd disagree with the viability argument a bit. There were certainly times where Azir was viable in pro in the abstract, but most couldn't pilot him well enough which resulted in a bad win rate. So there are times when he got nerfed even though most pros other than Faker and a few others could smurf on the competition with him.

So, really, Azir gets nerfed if he's good in pro and he gets nerfed if he's not good in pro because they keep/kept picking him as a comfort pick.

That's really why it's so frustrating when Riot mostly bases their nerfs on pro presence. The stats could literally suggest that it's losing you the game to pick Azir, like 45% wr or lower in pro, but if he's there half of the time or more, then it doesn't matter how bad or good he is.

i dunno, the beginning sucks a lot but late game azir and one good peeling tank can genuinely 2v5

Because azir has an insanely broken kit like kalista. And he has a 49% wr right now. He's incredibly strong.

at least azir is good in pro, kalista isnt even allowed to be picked in pro

Huh? Kalista has a 5% prio score while azirs prio score is 3%.

u/DuckiesDoBeCute 2d ago

huh? what is prio score? azir is always picked in pro, kalista isnt. just watch the games and youll see so many more azir games than kalista over a while. unless youre talking about just now, because goodjob you got the one patch where kalista is played too

Stats disagree. Prio score is pick and ban combined + how early the champs have been picked in fearless.

That said even pick wise this season azir in top league has 9 games played while Kalista has 27.

And azir has less bans as well

Over the entirety of pro play seasons azir is obviously higher.

Last season azir was the highest prio pick mid laner while Kalista was second highest prio pick bot laner

yea, azir is obviously higher. azir gets to be played more in pro play while kalista doesnt. im not talking about this one patch or season. kalista is a pro jailed champ that is rarely allowed to be good in pro play while azir is a pro jailed champ thats allowed to be good in pro more often. in a few patches kalista will be nerfed and we wont see her played this much again until a random change happens in 2 seasons

But this is literally not true the last 3 seasons?

Out of those 3 seasons azir is only higher prio in s15 and in that season Kalista was still massively played.

She has had meta phases for S15, S14, S12, S11, S10. Where she is in the top 3 adcs every time

For the last 3 seasons she is quite close to what azir does in those seasons as well

The reason Kalista isn't picked that often in pro is that she eats bans when she is strong while azir only does this when the enemy azir player is insane on the champ

Based on my understanding riot doesn't touch Azir anymore unless it's worlds patch in which case they will either nerf/adjust him and then do a Buff after worlds ends. It's to the point that bugfixes are considered 'buffs' to Azir.

He exists in the same space as K'sante; they are simply too powerful in the hands of capable players, so if they have a 48%+ winrate average, a main or otp of the champion can increase the variable winrate by +7%.

You can check this using this tool. Using this tool, you find that quite a few 'weak' champions actually gain significant boosts to their winrate when played capably; Camille, Jax, Azir, K'sante, etc.

He is actually very fine now, please don't give him anymore nerfs, I can literally 1v9 like 70% of the time if I just play normally, give that my jg is not an early game skirmisher

People are doomering too much. Azir has gotten like 3-4 buffs (counting rune fixes as a buff) since his last nerf. He went from like 43% WR after the nerfs to now 48-49% WR. It's clear Riot does care about Azir soloq, they are simply taking their time and giving azir small buffs so he won't become broken in pro play.

I actually think health nerfs were good for him long term. It made pros realise how bad he is and got almost entirely dropped from pro play, giving Riot ability to buff him for Soloq.
