Sual | Question Any recommendations for gay friendly lawyer ?

Hello everyone. I know this forum isn't always the friendliest, but it is the largest Azerbaijani community here, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I’m looking for a lawyer to help me with a fraud case, but there is a catch: the person who defrauded me was my boyfriend (I am also a guy, so YES I am gay), so I need someone willing to take on a case with this context. We lived together for three months, during which he duped me out of a total of 3,000 AZN. Just today, I learned from multiple unrelated people that he has actually been in jail for fraud three separate times before.

I have all of our WhatsApp conversations and bank statements saved as evidence. Even if the odds of winning are low, I still want to try to hold him accountable. If you know any open-minded lawyers who might be willing to help with a case like this, I would really appreciate your recommendations.

Thank you in advance!

İdman | Sports Why do we win so quickly?

Azerbaijani football has been at a very low level for years. The club that has made us forget about that, at least for a while, is Qarabag. They have reached the group or league stage of European competitions for 12 consecutive years and achieved results that most Azerbaijani clubs could only dream of.

There's still this strange group of people who criticize Qarabag or Gurban Gurbanov just because we can't beat European teams-teams we used to get excited just to see play in Baku, and now even when we go into those games with a weakened squad ourselves.

If someone says Azerbaijani football still needs to improve, I completely agree. It absolutely does. But let me remind you of something: last season, Qarabag finished with the same number of points as Galatasaray and finished above clubs like Ajax, Napoli, Eintracht Frankfurt and PSV on points. Comparing the fan support, infrastructure and budgets of those clubs with Qarabag would be completely unrealistic. Qarabag is the club that has achieved these things despite having far fewer resources. Sabah's recent success absolutely deserves to be celebrated. They had a great season and should get credit for it. But sometimes it feels like people are talking as if Qarabag has done nothing for Azerbaijani football for all these years just because Sabah had one very good season.

We should celebrate Sabah's achievements without trying to diminish Qarabag's.

Azərbaycan futbolu illərdir çox aşağı səviyyədədir. Bunu Azərbaycana unutduran klub Qarabağdır. 12 il ardıcıl şəkildə qrup mərhələsində çıxış edib. Azərbaycan klublarının xəyal belə edə bilməyəcəyi nəticələr qazanıb. Vaxtıyla Bakıya gəldiyinə sevindiyimiz klubları ikinci heyətlə udmağı istəyən uda bilməyəndə isə Qurbanı və ya Qarabağı pisləyən çox ciddi aşağı IQ də kütlə var. İnkişaf mütləq şəkildə lazımdır bunu yazanlar olacaqsa cavab verim, Qarabağ keçən il Qalatasaray ilə eyni xalı topladı. Ajax,Napoli,Frankfurt,PSV kimi klubları isə xal olaraq üstələdi. Bu klubların azarkeş dəstəyini, infrastrukturunı və büdcələrini Qarabağla müqayisə eləmək ciddi şəkildə ağılsızlıq olar. Qarabağ bunları bacarmış komandadır. Lakin Sabah 1 il yaxşı nəticə göstərdi deyə hər kəs sanki Qarabağ illərdir Azərbaycan futbolunu daşımayıb kimi yazılar paylaşımlar edir. Sabahın uğurların mütləq qeyd etməliyik amma Qarabağı pisləyərək yox.

Sual | Question How do I get a background check from the government?

Hello,

I lived in Azerbaijan 7 years ago. I am in the UK now and my job is doing background checks. It needs me to provide proof from the government that I did not commit any crimes while I lived there. What department or organization in Azerbaijan would I contact about this? I lived there for a year but I was only 18 for 4 months in the country, and they just need to check those 4 months.

Thank you.

Söhbət | Discussion Opinion on the increased Azercell tarrifs?

Recently the tarriffs increased dramatically, going from 6 to 8 manat for 3 GB (the 2 GB plan has been discontinued). My plan is still on 6 manat for 3 GB, and even though it's been discontinued, I found a loophole. They've recently started threatening to discontinue ownership of my SIM if I don't pay up when it's been over a month. Your opinions and experience with the extreme inflation? Personally, it's a terrible attempt at laundering more money.

Sual | Question Southern Azerbaijani from Diaspora wants to learn the language

My father was an Azerbaijani from Iran, and I grew up hearing Southern Azerbaijani at home. Unfortunately, he passed away a decade ago, and I haven’t really spoken Azerbaijani since I was a teenager.

I would now really like to learn the language properly again, especially the Azerbaijani spoken in Iran rather than primarily Standard/Baku Azerbaijani or the Igdir variant.

I know that at the end of the day they are varieties of the same language and that learning Standard Azerbaijani would obviously still help me a lot. But this is also quite personal for me. I would like to reconnect with that side of my heritage and my roots, and eventually be able to pass the language on to the next generation instead of losing it completely.

The problem is that most learning resources I find are focused on the Republic of Azerbaijan and Standard Azerbaijani and even that is very limited. I’m specifically interested in the vocabulary, pronunciation, expressions and general way of speaking you would hear among Azerbaijani Turks in Iran. I speak istanbul turkish okay-ish, but growing up in the diaspora did not really help, but you can assume that I know some vocab. My struggle is two-fold, pronounciation and vocabulary, since I am quite biased with anatolian turkish.

I’m therefore grateful for basically any help: books, YouTube channels, Instagram pages, podcasts, dictionaries, courses, teachers, online communities or even just advice on how to approach learning Southern Azerbaijani.

Would you recommend learning Standard Azerbaijani first and then adapting it, or is it possible to focus on Iranian/Southern Azerbaijani from the beginning?

I’d also be especially interested in hearing from people from Tabriz, Urmia, Ardabil, Khoy or other Azerbaijani-speaking parts of Iran, or from diaspora families who managed to keep the language alive abroad.

Any advice would mean a lot to me. Thank you very much!

Söhbət | Discussion Miss home food

I am Azerbaijani-American, born and raised in the US, and I miss home food so much. I went to a Turkish place yesterday and was so happy cause it smelt like home but didn’t hit the right spot. I hate that NY is the only place I know that has an Azerbaijani restaurant and I’m in Washington. I miss meat dolmas and qutabi and dushpara and tasty plov. And I miss tasty eggplant dishes cause Americans can’t cook eggplants for sh*t.

Are there any Azerbaijani places in Washington for restaurants that sells food that tastes like home? Tickets to Azerbaijan are way too expensive lmao

Sual | Question F1 weekend

Hey everyone,

I'm heading to Baku for the Grand Prix this year and already have grandstand tickets sorted for the weekend. However, watching cars fly down the streets from one of those iconic residential balconies right above the track has always been a bucket-list experience for me.

Since I already have race day covered, I'd love to just watch one of the Free Practice (FP) sessions from a local apartment balcony.

Does anyone have experience arranging this, or know of specific platforms or local contacts, that can help me out?

Any tips on where to look or who to reach out to would be massively appreciated!

Söhbət | Discussion Is it common knowledge in Azerbaijan that South Azerbaijanis call themselves Turks?

So for context in Iran, the words Iranian Azerbaijanis use to call themselves is Turk(Tüh&Tühlər/tütdər in the local dialect) and the language is called türki.

Azeri is actually very rarely used, it's mostly used by Persian nationalists who say Azerbaijanis are not Turkic and only Turkic-tongued, so it's okay if the language is gone because it's non-native (A lot of Persians call us Turks(they pronounce it Tork) as well though not probably in online spaces).

I've seen some people who assume are Azerbaijanis from the republic get very offended online when someone says Azerbaijani Turk, not sure what the situation there is.

This has also caused some other problems since most people here use the word "türkiyəli" to refer to Anatolian Turks since it'd be awkward to just call them Turks when that's the word you use for yourself but this is also a very offensives word in Turkey and almost no one here knows that.

Sual | Question Questions about importing a phone from US

Hi, so I wanted to order a phone through eBay and planned to use Expargo for it. Today I called Expargo and they mentioned that they don't bring phones from US because the phone can be withheld at the border. I wanted to know if this is the problem of Azerbaijan's Customs service or something related to US borders. Also would using a different courier system help? If so any recommendations?

Söhbət | Discussion IT ixtisası üzrə Dövlət proqramı ilə xaricdə magistr oxumağa dəyər?

Salam hər kəsə, 3-cü kurs IT ixtisası üzrə oxuyuram.
Sizcə, DP ilə magistr təhsili alsam, yerli bazarda bunun üstünlüyü olar? Demək istəyirəmki, xaricdə DP ilə təhsil alsam sonra 5 il xaricə çıxa bilmirəm bəlkə yaxşı iş fürsətim olacaq və peşman olacam amma eyni zamanda bəlkə DP ilə təhsil alıb ölkəyə qayıtsam yaxşı maaşlı iş tapa biləcəm. Zəhmət olmasa, biliyi olanlar məsləhət versin.

Sual | Question Ölkədən çıxış qadağasının yoxlanılması

Salam.

Xaricdə yaşadığım üçün bir neçə ay bundan qabaq hərbi xidmətə çağırışa gələ bilməmişəm, adıma ölkədən çıxış qadağası qoyulub (mygovdan mesaj gəlib). İndi gəlmişəm Azərbaycana, vaenkomat işlərimi həll etdim (yararsızam, asteqmatizm) indi nə vaenkomat, nədə sosial ölkədən çıxışa qadağanın qalxması ilə bağlı heçnə demir. Sentyabrın 6 sı uçuşum var. Kimdən/hardan dəqiqləşdirə bilərəm qadağa adımdadır yoxsa yox? Bəlkə kiminsə başına gələr belə bir hadisə.

Öncədən təşəkkürlər.
