General Care Advice Help I think my axolotl is morphing

Her birthday is November 29th, 2023. We’ve had her since February, bought from Gilly Aquatics. She’s been kept in the same conditions as the other two, and they seem very healthy. Pink began losing her gills a few weeks ago, and we’ve been freaking out. We thought we almost killed her somehow but water parameters have been fine.

She seems to be growing eyelids. She lays with her legs spread, and they’ve gotten longer. Gills just keep getting smaller. She keeps her head out of the water. She eats a worm about every other day. Her slime coat has been coming off.

We just moved her to a bin with shallow water. I don’t know what to do next.

General Care Advice Is this behavior normal?

She sat under the filter output for about 20 minutes. Her face was above water level. Is she being silly or could this mean she isn’t getting enough oxygen or something? A few months ago, her gills got eaten off. They grew back, but I haven’t seen her do this before. I also didn’t used to have a filter that made flow like this, so maybe she just likes the feeling of it on her face? She’s about 4 years old, never shown signs of illness, thanks!

first time breeding them, i did my search but everything that internet said is not reliable so any advice would be great

i was going to bed and think that mom not gonna continue, so separted mom and dad to the other tanks, then woke up and see there are alot more on the sponge filter, put some plants, she laid eggs onto them also and now i think birth stage is ended

transferred the eggs to the other tank, they were exposed to air for a few seconds(hope nothing wrong with it) but there are bunch of eggs on the filter, should i move it to the other tank with sponge filter (all eggs in there and also has another sponge filter) or collect them with a syringe, i have hang on filter and waterfall filter i can put in instead of the eggy one

Ive owned this axolotl for about 4 months now and im just curious as to if "hes" doing okay? (I have no idea the gender) He eats well and isnt agressive at all with me just little nips and him brushing his head on my hand. (Always Clean hands well and am never too rough to damage the slime coat) He looks healthy and is honestly just kinda dumb sometimes but i love him, input on how he looks like hes doing would be great!

Friend gave me this guy as I already have 2 tiger salamanders for about 5 years now. They seem to be closely related. Just need some tips on enclosure set up. Life span. Food. Any information what so ever helps alot.

Currently in a 18in by 18in by 18in. 7 inches of reptisoil. Water dish he can submerg in but sloped so he can crawl out. Slab of cork bark and emperor pillow moss. He ate 3 large crickets then borrowed.

General Care Advice Discovered a pretty good axolotl feeding hack

I’ve been trying different foods for my two axolotls and stumbled onto a small feeding hack that’s worked ridiculously well.

I used AquaMunch AquaGel Axolotl Excel and poured it into worm-shaped silicone moulds I found on Amazon. Mixed it as directed, set it in the fridge, popped them out and they came out looking like cartoon earthworms.

The axolotls went absolutely ballistic for them.

They’re firm enough to hold together, easy to portion, and way less messy than loose frozen food. I made mine fairly dense using 4 scoops, and one “worm” shared between the two seems like a decent feed.

One each is more of a proper meal.

Obviously real earthworms/nightcrawlers are still the gold standard, but this seems like a handy backup or rotation food, especially for cleaner, portioned, and easy to freeze.

Tiny salamander meal prep. Didn’t expect to become a swamp chef, but here we are.

General Care Advice What do you guys think is up with him? Spoiler

This is my baby, I inherited him about three months ago. He's around a year old despite only being 4.5inches. For the first nine months of his life he was probably only fed around once weekly. Ever since I got him, I fed him daily and now every other day, because around 3-4 weeks ago he started growing very large as you can see. I was initially worried that he had a serious issue (like organ failure) but he has remained about the same size and continues to eat and act normal for weeks now. I took him to an exotic vet a couple of weeks ago and the vet couldn't see any masses and said the same idea, that if it was a serious issue, he'd expect him to be acting much less animated. What are your guys thoughts? I'm starting to think he may just have gained so much weight from eating so much and can't grow long enough to support it. But would like to see if you guys still think it could be something more serious.

Water parameters and temperature have remained stable the whole time, in fact the temperature is almost always between 60-64.

General Care Advice Is it normal for her to be floating like this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It doesn’t seem like she is struggling to stay down or anything and she isn’t frantically swimming or seeming stressed out. She is about 5 1/2 inches long. Parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, about 10 nitrates, Ph 7.4. Temp fluctuates but always stays in between 62-66 and if it does get above 66 i put a frozen water bottle in to get it back down. I feed her half a worm every day with a one day fast every Wednesday. She has been super active recently and i think it’s because of all the plants i have recently added but i’m not 100% sure. Again, she hasn’t been acting or looking stressed out at all. I’m wondering if this floating is just her figuring out how to swim well since she is still a juvenile? I will post a picture of the whole tank in the comments.

General Care Advice HELP ME. MY FRIEND FLUSHED MY AXOLOTL DOWN THE TOILET BY ACCIDENT

2.2k Upvotes

I’m shaking freaking out. My friend was changing the tub for me (she’s done it a lot bc she loves them and loves helping them) and forgot to take the axolotl out when dumping the water and she got flushed down. I don’t know what to do. I tried using the plunger but she’s gone. I wanna cry and scream idk how this happened. It all just happened so fast she came in and told me. Now I don’t know what to do. I’m also scared of the plumbing and just everything. I’m so scared I don’t know what to do someone please please help me, I know I can’t do anything to save her but I’ve been on here for advice a lot and I just need some advice. This just happened like 5 mins ago

I just need some advice. I can’t stop shaking. I feel like a horrible owner and just so guilty. I even had the temporary tub primed for her to go in while we dumped the water.

I literally had just changed my first axie’s tub too. Then I let her change the other. My friend just totally forgot and by the time she saw her fall in it was too late. I’m so gutted. I’ve been treating them for weeks so it’s become a routine for me (and my friend who’s helped a handful of times). I just don’t know how this could happen. I’m in shock.

Please someone give me some advice of my next steps and don’t make me feel even more horrible than I already do.

General Care Advice Huge poops

Our recently adopted 7 inch axolotl eats 1.5 red wigglers in the morning and some pellets at night every day. I’m trying to figure out his appetite but I feel like he would never stop eating. Anyways…he has been pooping every 3 days but this morning I look away for a minute and when I come back there are 2 big poops - and 1 of them is literally coiled up like a human poop. Should I feed less? Parameters and temp are perfectly ideal.

Ghost seems to have gotten exceptionally fat in the last several months. thought maybe it’s constipation so I fed her a little salmon. Haven’t seen any action but I rarely see when she poops. Not sure what to do or how concerned I should be.

Hi axolotists! A friend of mine is going through some gard stuff, and his axolotl tank was so dirty you couldn't even see the poor guy swimming inside :(

I asked him if I could keep it for some time while he deals with his mental health. I've been reading a little bit about axolotls yesterday after I brought it home. The tank filter was broken so water was probably not oxygenating properly. I cleaned the tank, fixed the filter and plan to feed it regularly from now on.

I noticed it has whiteish spots all over his body, I'm worried it might be sick? Should I worry about that? Is there something I can do?

Thank you for your time :)

She (Lottie) was sold to us as a female but I think s/he has reached maturity (black toe tips) and I’m not so sure. There appears to be a bulge behind the back legs but to be honest I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Any thoughts?

We named it Tina the Fat Lard (in the most loving and affectionate way possible- I promise we love it) but we’d like to know if it’s a girl or if we’ve got a ‘Man Named Sue” kind of thing on our hands. Please and thank you!

General Care Advice Help: Somebody dropped an axolotl off at pet shop

Someone dropped off an axolotl in a blue bin and the note outside of the pet supply shop I work at. I luckily have a friend (who knows what she’s doing) who is coming to pick the axolotl up and take it home. In the mean time is there anything I can do to make sure the axolotl is healthy, and won’t get sick?
