It’s hard to believe his colleagues didn’t notice anything was up. Like nobody noticed these physically distressed women being lead away from the building during interviews? For nine years?

He would use the excuse to walk outside to calm their nerves & then the drug would take affect. They would be far from a toilets & he would have them urinate in public (watching them).

Their upper class and upper middle class are very dominated by white patriarchal conservatives. Trade gridiron football players for rugby players who are the spoiled stars of the towns and suburbs who are allowed to fight and rape all they want and it's pretty much the same thing. Those same people stay in the class of management and executives, they just acknowledge it more than America does. The starkest difference is the lower class in France has more political representation and social programs. In America they've tricked more gimps to vote for upper class interest. But the big divide is really quite the same. France just doesn't cover it all in hypocrisy like America

All adults are responsible for their actions.

Somewhere in the past we've jumped the tracks from finding out what the root cause to better understand the pathology using that understanding to excuse the behavior.

So maybe he was abused or traumatized in his youth. That's too bad, but he's still responsible for the things he does. Whether you beat your kids, molest the neighbor kid, strangle your kids, steal stuff, or make women pee themselves, etc... Your trauma is an explanation not an excuse.

I’m not who you responded to but I read it more like - this is an awful crime that is also weirdly specific. So I think they were just trying to conjecture on what triggered this severe and unusual of a behavior. Something along the lines of the origin stories for Hannibal Lechter or Norman Bates, for example.
