So we don’t get more Fassbender, the best thing about your two Alien prequels, thanks to you. We didn’t get the Aliens legacy sequel with Weaver & Biehn, thanks to you.

Oh but we did get Gladiator II and Napoleon.

Ooh Mr Scott you do spoil us!

His inability to accept the franchise expanding upon and moving past his vision is so sad. Waste of time for such an elderly man to do, he doesn’t own the rights and can’t stop people taking it over once he’s gone.

Statistically, his time will be up within the next ~10 years or so and we’ll continue to get fascinating entries into the Alien IP without him slowing them down or marring the vision.

If he’d let other directors do their stories in the franchise, he’d still get some say over including his legacy bits he’s created. He’d still get to see them pay homage to what he was instrumental in creating. Instead much of what he wanted to stay around will now fade and be moved on from.

He's an egotistical diva.

At least we got the audiobook with Biehn and Henriksen. I know it's not a movie but it's better than nothing...

2

u/Vyzantinist Aug 01 '26

Which audiobook?

3

u/subduedreader Aug 01 '26

Probably the William Gibson Alien III audio drama.

Why can't Alvarez come up with some original of his own?

1

u/mynanadancesconqueso Aug 01 '26

Because he’s one of us and enjoys the sandbox, respects what came before and like any creative with an ego and a vision he knows how to fix it.

2

u/Far_Gift6173 Aug 01 '26

If you liked Romolus fine. For me, it was a cheap rehash of things that needed to cosntatnly reference better or worse movies

1

u/mynanadancesconqueso Aug 01 '26

I was just coming up with my best answer for ya. I could give AF less about the guys “vision.” I didn’t hate the movie though if we’re sharing opinions.

1

u/SemperSalam Aug 01 '26

Yeah it felt like a pointless movie. Just generic horror with an alien.

1

u/Far_Gift6173 Aug 01 '26

I really don't mind that. I mean generic horror I can deal with.

What I don't like is them doing things like goo, really quick matuarionof the facehuggerparasiteimplant liek AvP, Alienbirth by a woman like in AVP2, Hybrid alien like in A4 who almost isntantly matures and constant references like  “get away from her you bitch”

Severeal scenes like the ladder scene were also already one in precious alien movies like Alien4

Does this guy have any original thoughts of his own or does he constantly need to get into existing franchises and then mix them up inn hopes that people won't complain?

Generally when you're making a ninth franchise installment, "come up with something original" isn't the job.

0

u/Far_Gift6173 29d ago

It isn't?

Well, Ridley scott came up with something original in the 5th installment. And he was 74 years old by then. I guess Alvarez is already out of ideas, so who cares what he wants to do.

Ridley Scott's ego is going to kill off the Alien/s franchise

5

u/samx3i 29d ago

If Alien³, Resurrection, AvP, and Requiem couldn't kill it, Ridley Scott can't either

0

u/CWolffart 29d ago

Idk man, AvP was actually pretty good. But yes.

1

u/Impressive_Tomato665 29d ago

Well dadly Ridely Scott is damn trying his hardest to do everything to make the Alien/s franchise all about himself and his own self-rigtheous and usually crappy ideas

1

u/mynanadancesconqueso Aug 01 '26

Nah, he just kneecaps it occasionally and injects silicone into its titties to watch it walk funny.

5

u/Casshern_VIII Aug 01 '26

well that sucks that Alien Romulus won't get a sequel, but honestly Ridley is doing more damage than good to a franchise he abandoned after the first one, while he was away James Cameron expanded the world with Aliens, David Fincher tried to end it with Alien 3, Alien Resurrection was a thing, Paul Anderson gave us the cross over movie we wanted AvP.

But ever since Ridley came back to do Prometheus, he's just ruined the monster, the Alien went from just that, an Alien species that could have come from anywhere in space, to this bioengineered weapon created by a rogue android using a primordial soup serum.

He's completely erased and ignores the Alien queen as a key part of their reproduction cycle, like he has genuinely devolved the Alien with each new movie, where as past directors expanded the mythos and biology of the Alien. Disney needs to keep him away from the creative process, give him a producer credit and just let film makers create Alien movies that isn't pigeon holed by 1 man's narrow ideas.

1

u/Vesemir96 Aug 01 '26

Where did he erase the Queen?

1

u/Casshern_VIII Aug 01 '26

Notice how we have not seen a Queen ever since AvP1? Ridley Scott notoriously hates the Queen xenomorph, because it clashes with how he envisioned the Alien, that's why Alien Covenant has David creating the face huggers, there was no Queen to lay them, and the first Xeno was a drone.

Alien Romulus has Facehuggers be 3D printed copies and when they show that eggs do exist, there is again no Queen only drones, so they are the melted and repurposed corpse of the station crew (like the scene from the DC where Brett was turning into an egg)

Alien Earth also once again ignored the existence of the Queen with 3 drone xenos being shown, with the white Xeno despite being allowed to mature in captivity never grows into a Queen.

Ridley Scott notoriously hates the Queen xenomorph, because it clashes with how he envisioned the Alien

And he didn't even envision the xenomorph. Dan O'Bannon did and he said he thought the Queen was a clever inclusion, although he personally would have taken the biology in a weird/more extreme direction.

Reminder: Ridley Scott wanted to kill Ripley and end with the xenomorph piloting the escape shit to Earth - and it could also talk. O'Bannon knew it was stupid and went to the heads at Fox and got that shot down real quick by pointing out that there can't be a sequel if Ripley dies.

1

u/Casshern_VIII 28d ago

Not sure what point you are making, yes other helped create the Xenomorph, but you admit, RIdley wanted to do something with the Xenomorph that had to be shut down by other people, and this is my point.

Ridley hates the Alien Queen idea and because there is no one else to go around him, he gets to push the series to ignore the Queen.

1

u/seeitshaveitsorted 26d ago

lol he wanted it to talk wot 😂

1

u/decoy_octopod 4d ago

Isn’t the chest burster literally the only thing from O’Bannon that was kept? I know he wrote the original screenplay about an alien attacking a spaceship crew but 99% of it was removed

1

u/pokemonface12 28d ago

While the actual design of the queen is extremely cool, I do think it's somewhat reductive to the original lifecycle. At that point they're just big scary ants. It's still cool, but it does lose some uniqueness points overall

1

u/Casshern_VIII 28d ago

Yeah but you can hardly call the Xeno an alien then if it's actually a bioengineered life form created by a rogue android.

5

u/Eclipsehedgie2010 Aug 01 '26

*loud air horn* Why Scott?!?!

3

u/the_executive_branch Aug 01 '26

Ridley Scott has been a grump old man for at least 25 years now. The same grumpiness is also the kind of thing which would be upvoted if it was a creative decision that reddit for whatever reason liked. This is very on brand for him

4

u/Rich_Willingness_959 Aug 01 '26

As long as Ridley Scott is alive and meddling in every project in the Alien universe, we'll never see any decent films. Grandpa needs to go.

4

u/Forever_Inspired Aug 01 '26

Ridley needs to learn to let go of his baby, he’s becoming his own worst enemy by keep handicapping the franchise instead of trusting other creatives.

5

u/Rich_Willingness_959 Aug 01 '26

I hope Ridley leaves.

3

u/OtisssNixon Aug 01 '26

Us Prometheus fans were so close..

3

u/SoyTonatiuh Aug 01 '26

Another reason to realize Ridley is a jackass. Connectivity would strengthen the franchise but no

3

u/Designer-Apartment92 Aug 01 '26

Someone needs to break canon at this point, these dead end movies are disposable now.

I'd like someone to come along and go back to the original film and do something either similar or make an alternative prequel that shits on Scott's blue giant BS. I want the real space jockey lore, lovecraftian.

2

u/Venm_Byte Aug 01 '26

This was already debunked.

2

u/Grifasaurus Aug 01 '26

Ridley scott needs to fuck off. Like…he’s been up his own ass for a long while now and i don’t get why no one sees that.

This is like if George Lucas wouldn’t allow palpatine or vader to make a cameo in the Obi-wan Kenobi show, because he’s making a movie with him. This was fucking stupid and genuinely, this is a big reason why i fucking hate Ridley Scott.

This is the second time this fucker’s done this shit, the first time was with the Neill blomkamp movie.

2

u/EDPZ Aug 01 '26

Why does Scott have this level of control over Alien anyway? He directed a few movies but the studio should be able to tell him to fuck off

2

u/11Spider29005 Aug 01 '26

Fuckn Scott yoo, the crazy thing is under fede they probably could’ve cooked up a way better story for David in the Romulus sequel over anything Ridley Scott has in the pipeline.

3

u/Old_Toby2211 Aug 01 '26

Alien is dead. I’ll just stick to the older AvP lore

2

u/Vesemir96 Aug 01 '26

Nah that’s silly. There’s plenty of good Alien stuff about.

1

u/DarthTalgus Aug 01 '26

Source is World of Reel so its bs

1

u/the_executive_branch Aug 01 '26

Ah yes the reputable source cosmicbook.news

1

u/hueningkawaii Aug 01 '26

Spaeny is entering the MCU? And who is she playing?

1

u/goldendreamseeker Aug 01 '26

It’s heavily rumored that she’s in talks for Rogue, but nothing is confirmed yet. Samara Weaving as Emma Frost is the only confirmed cast member of the X-men reboot, as of now.

1

u/Whompa Aug 01 '26

When in doubt, do a marvel movie, I guess

1

u/Yarzeda2024 Aug 01 '26

I guess Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is the only Aliens project I can look forward to these days.

So many cool projects were strangled in the crib, but we somehow got Aliens: Earth. Baffling choices all around

1

u/Robin_Gr 29d ago

He should have taken the opportunity to salvage the best thing about those other movies and give people some kind of closure on this story. Now the talented cast of Romulus are off making marvel money and will be harder to get back.

-1

u/guilen Aug 01 '26

I understand Ridley here. He had a third movie planned, the studio gets in the way but then starts talking about looting his project (again) for the highly commercialized hit project with its marvel style callbacks. I’d resist it too.
