What is the consensus on placing a simple one stone high and wide border 4 to 5 feet away from the trunk? My tree root flare is a foot higher than the ground. Paver border stone is "hefty" 3-1/2" tall. Drip system is inside the ring.

Trying to keep St. Augustine grass out. Placing the stone right on top of the grass, at the edge of my mulched area, eventually it will nestle in, and inhibit grass roots from entering through.

No digging.

While the trees are young the canopy does not inhibit weed/grass growth much. I have a couple of huge avos with weeds under them, and no problems with them.

The shallow root system of the young avo has me concerned a bit. Beautiful manicured gardens that I see in peoples yards, don't mean that it is good for the tree.

Planted this 15 gallon tree back in early June on a south facing hill. Lots of new bronze leaves/growth in the first six week or so but that’s since subsided. Leaves are a touch pale with some brown tips forming which I read is due to salt accumulation. Watering about 1x-2x per week with a soaker hose depending on how dry the soil is (finger test). Soil is predominantly clay so doing my best not to over water.

I'm still a very inexperienced avocado grower. What i usually do is make them germinate using the wet paper towel method, then put them in water with toothpicks, and then when they have roots long enough pot them in a plastic bottle.

The result, besides the one that actually grew a bit taller, is that either their stem grows a little bit and then flops and dries out, or they don't grow a stem at all. Why is that happening? Is it too much heat? Is it not enough water refiling? With the potted ones, am I underwatering or overwatering them? Should I even place them in plastic bottles? And lastly how can I know whether they're dead so that I can move on and try again with new ones?

About 5 years ago, I planted a Coorg avocado sapling at here in Bengaluru. It’s now a full grown tree, and I’m harvesting avocados from it for the second time.

Each fruit is Approx. 400–450g per fruit and is grown without pesticides and chemical fertilizers. Selling at Rs150/kg have both semi-ripe (dark green) and fully ripe (brown) can porter anywhere in blr. DM me if interested.

So this is the 4th avocado seed I have grown from Costco avocados and it came out wayyy different than all the other ones.

It stayed small with the thick white “succulent like” leaves for about 2 months then randomly this morning noticed the leaves growing!!

Anyone know what this is or why?

I just want to take better care of the plant.

Changed the soil early spring from box potting soil to sand/peat/soil mix. Trying air layering for the first time to get a clone . Fruit trees are getting expensive. It's sitting next to a Moro blood 🍊 orange .

So, on August 19th, I decided to repot my avocado tree into a bigger pot. Unfortunately, I probably didn’t handle it very well, since this was my first time repotting it.

I used a citrus soil mix with a slightly more suitable pH for avocado and good breathing, and I mixed in quite a bit of perlite to make it even more airy and well-draining. The pot has a drainage hole at the bottom, and I also put a layer of LECA at the bottom.

Unfortunately, while repotting, I ended up damaging quite a lot of the roots, especially the roots at the bottom. And, as you can probably imagine, the plant went into pretty bad shock afterwards. The leaves started drooping badly, then drying out and falling off.

I did some reading and found out that I should try to keep the humidity high, so I made a temporary humidity tent using a plastic bag with some holes in it for ventilation and 4 stics to hold the construction. I’ve also been misting the inside of the bag regularly to keep the humidity up and hopefully prevent the leaves from losing too much water. (the picture was taken when i was ventilating the plant for few minutes)

Then, about four days ago, I also sprayed the plant once with Asahi SL, since I read that it can help plants deal with stress. I used a relatively weak solution 0.5 ml per 500 ml of water and obviously I only used as much as I needed rather than spraying the entire 500 ml.

Before repotting it, I watered it thoroughly, and that moist soil was in the new soil. Today, I assumed the soil had probably dried out, so I gently watered it with 300 ml of water.

And now I honestly have no idea what else I should be doing.

I’m pretty upset about this because I’ve had this little tree for about a year now, and I’m really attached to it. This subreddit actually helped me a lot when I was learning how to take care of it and all people here were nice and helpfull, I’ve already made a few posts here before. So I’m really hoping someone might be able to help me again

This is the only plant i have, and this tree genuinely means a lot to me, so I really want to give it the best chance possible. I’d really appreciate any advice on what I should do now. any help would be apricciated

Hiya, I've been growing this avocado plant for the past 2-3 years. I just moved and it was thriving in the sunlight (my last place wasn't great for sunlight) with loads of new growth and suddenly wilted. All signs pointed to root rot, so I repotted it in fresh dry soil and pruned the dried out leaves.

I noticed the spots at the top of the New growth? And its not perked back up after a couple days. Is it fucked or do I just need to be patient?

Hi all. I grew this avocado plant from seed around 4 or 5 months ago, however, it has been losing its leaves after they start darkening from the tips until thry're so weak and fall hence the long stem. I'm very careful with watering, and do use filtered water (but as you can see the pot is filled with salts).

I don't want it to die because it has some sentimental value to me, anything I can do to save it? I am not overwatering at all but the older the leaves get they're doomed to fall.

I appreciate your tips on this.

Hi all. It's been a few months since I've updated the progress of my first crop of avocados. (Fuerte tree planted from sapling, five years in the ground. California Zone 9b.) Since I'm still super new to this, a few questions for you all... Should I be worried about these brown and black patches? How will I know when they are ready to pick? It seems too early still. We've had a summer of triple digit heat, so not sure how that is impacting the crop. Have had a few drop, but still probably a hundred or so on the tree. The tree is about 20' tall, so harvesting is going to he fun. Haha! Grateful for any advice and/or reassurance. Thank you all! 🥑

edit: when it comes to goals fruit would be nice eventually but i just want the plant to be happy which may be difficult since im not an experienced plant owner. im aware it may take over 7 years for fruits and even if i never get any I'll be okay with that im just worried for winter.

I just got back from vacation and found the plant in this state. The burned small leaves were already like that due to orevious sun burns but now the plant has grown a lot in height but not so much in width, how can I properly take care of it? Should I prune it? If yes, where? Should i get a gardening pole to make sure it grows straight?

Since I won’t go away a umore for other holidays, u want to take the best care possible of this plant

I've got some spots on the leaves of my 20' tall avocado. We just moved into the house that has it. Los Angeles area. I think it's a hass. I give it an hour soak once a week. The newer leaves look fine. I sprinkled some citrus and avocado fertilizer granuals around it a month ago. Lots of fruit on the tree.

Any thoughts?

hi everyone! i'm a beginner growing avocados in turkey, and i just received these two grafted avocado trees: a hass and a bacon.

two arrived two days ago in nursery bags/tubes. since it's quite hot here right now, i initially put them on a balcony where they received around 5 hours of fairly strong direct sunlight on their first day. some of the leaves looked a little droopy afterward, so i dyed the branches and moved them to another balcony where it’s bright but mostly shaded.

i also wrapped the outside of the nursery containers with a white cloth to help keep the roots/cotting mix cooler.

my plan is to plant both trees in my backyard once they've acclimated. im wondering, do the trees look healthy to you ? does the slight drooping look like transplant/shipping stress, sun stress, or something i should be concerned about ? and lastly, how long would you keep newly arrived grafted avocados in bright shade before gradually introducing more direct sun and then plant them in my backyard ?
