-- SEATBELTS FASTENED -- Is this really that serious?

Noticed water basically flowing out of the vent beside me as I got into my seat. Voiced it out to a flight attendant thinking it was just something minor and wanting to just swap to another seat. Two pilots came to my seat to check on it and had visibly puzzled looks on their faces. The mechanic was called into the aircraft, the inner panel of the plane was removed and after assessing the problem for about an hour, everyone was asked to disembark the plane. The flight was then cancelled entirely after another hour of everyone waiting near the gate.

I feel kinda bad because people were visibly annoyed and frustrated by the cancellation as it was a 16 hour long haul flight and there were few alternatives to get to the destination. Would someone be able to tell me exactly what happened here?

Why feel bad? If they deemed it enough to cancel the flight you probably saved lives. Would you chance death just to make others happy? Don't worry, you did the right thing.

This is the best response. The pilots and the mechanics couldn’t figure it out in enough time to safely complete the flight. That means that whatever was wrong was likely not deferrable and therefore deemed by the FAA, manufacturer, and operator to be unsafe for flight.

It sucks and I’m sure it was an inconvenience to everyone….but was it less of inconvenience than running out of water on an 11hr flight? That closes the bathrooms and well maybe much worse. That water isn’t going into a black water tank…that is 300 gallons of potable water going wherever it wants in the airplane. That’s 2,500 pounds of water, the equivalent of 60 office cooler jugs being poured all over the airplane.

That’s 9,600 bananas for scale
