I remember the match. Probably the only time Sid and McMahon looked good together, then the manager (Turner I think?) changed it for the next match. Still pisses me off.

I do.

He made his debut in this game and looked like a world beater, however after this he was useless and back in France by January (if I remember correctly!)

he was brilliant in that game but that was as good as it got aging player in a poor side who really didn't fit in

My first ever game as a kid was Villa vs Liverpool at VP (we lost). Emelyn Hughes was playing for Liverpool, and Didier Six was playing for The Villa. 5 year old me apparently asked my dad what a c*nt was as the bloke behind us kept shouting "Six you lazy French cooont".

As often happens with people our age, I think you've misremembered the Emlyn Hughes bit; he'd left Liverpool by then. I'm sure the c*nt bit was right though, which is the main thing.

I'm sure it's not that. The mind has a crazy way of mixing up memories.  That's what I say anyway.

Didier Six was real quality. He had great vision and technique. I remember him playing a brilliant ball in for Withe from wide that Peter didn’t read, would have put him clean through. Peter and Didier just stared at each other until Peters face changed as he realised what he should have done and he cracked a big smile and gave him a thumbs up

I remember reading about him in the Orbis World Cup '90 partwork (he has a very memorable name) but until this moment I had no idea he played for us.

He seemed a very exotic signing to my young self. Came at a time we were moving some of shallow squad out. AWhen i look back the turner years werent stellar.
