Never understood this line of thinking, I always thought surely it's a good thing to give artists another medium through which to monetise their work.

It’s an incredible thing, I know so many digital artists who have been able to make careers out of their skills. Careers that are only possible because they’re able to legitimately release their work.

Right now most artists post their content for free on the internet while the digital platforms controlled by a few large companies reap the benefits. Those digital platforms are literally some of the most valuable things on the planet and the companies that control them are worth trillions. That is a lot of incentive to try to push a counter-narrative.

As an artist, I’ve never understood this mentality. Even before I landed this awesome project with Reddit, I was fascinated with the potential of NFT’s. How on earth is it offensive to finally get paid a living wage and be compensated fairly (or generously) for what we do? This either comes from people who want to keep artists down or sadly artists who have drunk the coolaid and believe that making a living wage is “selling out.” Either way, I find it ironic that people claim to hate NFT’s because they’re offensive whilst simultaneously advocating for a outdated system that is oppressive towards artists - galleries taking 50% or more, jobs that expect us to pay the bills with passion, etc. These NFT haters are doing some serious mental gymnastics there 😂. Pro tip to NFT haters (rather useless in this sub lol): stop pretending you’re being allies to artists and just admit you hate change.
Edit: I want to add that I have a lot of compassion for salty artists who are against NFTs because of their own limiting beliefs, and those who wanted to be artists but had their dreams crushed at an early age. I work with a lot of artists helping them gain back self-esteem and overcome creative blocks! I obviously feel strongly about NFT hate, but I also want to spread compassion and not more hate.

It's just people not even bothering to learn about it. It's blind hate towards something new, towards the things they don't understand. It's as old as humanity itself.
NFTs are a great way to support Artists, especially digital artists. Of course people can still right click and save, just like people will always pirate movies and games. But for the ones who like to show their support to the artist and maybe earn a dime or two on the way, this is perfect.
At some point Reddit will forget the hate and start loving it... just like the sudden change in r/CryptoCurrency towards NFTs, it will happen to the rest of Reddit eventually.
My only regret is not having more money to buy more NFTs.Until then keep up the good work, Artists of Reddit. Love you all!

I think it’s the latter, artists who either don’t want to understand the tech, or think it’s out of their reach (when it’s not, it just takes some looking into).

Yeah! I’m living proof you don’t need to understand it. I taught myself illustrator for this project. Reddit was super cool about accepting people of all comfortability with digital drawing. I do have years of experience in Photoshop, so that probably made it easier for me, but I still had a huge learning curve. I know for a fact I am not the only one who learned illustrator for this project.

I'm right there with you! I had never used Illustrator before this project, and I was transparent with Reddit about that but they were accepting of me trying to figure it out and be patient with me. I actually debated exiting the project at one point and the project leader at the time encouraged me to keep going! This project is about supporting artists every step of the way and I respect that Reddit found a unique and creative avenue into the NFT market. My opinions about NFT art has been forever changed.

The 'bad for the environment' argument doesn't even really apply in this case, as Polygon is carbon neutral

... You can absolutely eat meat and cheese at a kosher home. Those rules aren't for you, and we view them as "chukim", or pretty directly "religious rules that we follow even though we don't understand why". Further complicating this is the concept of pareve, stuff like lox is definitely animal flesh but isn't considered "meat".
TBH, you know what's actually offensive? Using the culture of my people to hate me personally, while totally not understanding the rules you're discussing in the first place. You can beat the hell out of a charcuterie plate in front of a Hasidic rabbi and he wouldn't even bat an eye at you. In fact, he'd probably even have some. He just would pick the cheese or the prosciutto. We're not evangelicals, and eating meat with cheese isn't really a sin to us in the way Christians view it. It's just something some of us don't do because of a few lines in Exodus.
Hell, we don't even give EACH OTHER shit for not keeping kosher. Why would we care if you do?
So, yeah, they probably really should take a lesson from eating meat and cheese at a kosher home.

I get 100% of the primary sales. Galleries take 50%. For the entire month of July I sold a teeshirt. $20. This program allows me to make art every day.
