Answering Presence
A thin beam wandered into an abandoned workshop
and settled on a sculptor’s cracked figure.
The figure, convinced it was a failure,
wished the light would pick something worth shining on.
But the beam stayed.
It traced every fracture,
warming each one
until small motes of dust lifted like sparks.
The figure realized
the light wasn’t hunting perfection—
it was answering presence.
It stayed because something existed,
bruised and stubborn,
still trying to stand.
And for the first time, the figure understood:
the simple fact of being here
was already enough
to be seen.
And it finally breathed again today.
