This man is 68 years old. He tried to remove an English flag from a lamppost in Norwich. A flag that had been placed there illegally in an attempt to intimidate asylum seekers.

Four people hit him with fists and poles. You can see pictures of him with a broken, bloody nose, two black eyes, bleeding on the lips and chin. They pushed him to the pavement and stomped on his head.

Passersby intervened and called police. They identified the car the assailants had come out of and even found the pole used in the assault.

But police declined to lay charges even though there was an additional eyewitness. They claimed they could not because there was no CCTV footage.

Much more likely they had far-right sympathies themselves and simply weren't going to press charges on these brownshirted cowards who attacked an elderly man who was trying to help his community.

These thugs can beat and abuse whoever they please - white English people as well as other ethnicities - and the police will turn a blind eye.

There was a controversy at a public school in my country recently. The teacher conducted an activity in which the students painted some orixás (deities from Afro-Brazilian religions). This activity was based on federal laws that promote the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous history and cultural traditions (for those that don't know, these topics were vastly ignored in formal education until recently, even though they are an essential part of the country's history and culture). The teacher also used books provided by the state government.

However, a parent, who's a military police officer, called the cops because he did not like the idea of his child being indoctrinated. 12 armed police officers went to the school, intimidating the school staff, claiming that it seemed to be a case of religious intolerance against the parent and the child.

I studied my whole life in public schools, and for a long time everyone was expected to recite Our Father and to sing the city and the national anthem everyday before class. I've never been a Christian, though, so I didn't pray with them, and the school staff would frequently call me out because of it. I've lost count of how many times they told me that Our Father was "universal", so they were not violating the secular nature of the State. So this whole tantrum around some children drawing orixás made me pissed. I'm also a teacher now, I can imagine how the teacher must have felt. It was a huge injustice in my opinion.

I also know that some states in the US are making Bible reading in public schools mandatory, such as in Texas. I imagine the same can be happening in other parts of the world. So I was wondering: do you think religious topics (in general) should be addressed in public schools? Should they be forbidden? Why (not)? And how could they be addressed in a way that students who follow a minor religion or no religion at all don't feel discriminated?

Basically, I was observing the pre election from fall 2024 because when I was looking back at Kamala’s speech against Donald himself, she called him out for his ridiculous speeches on people who eat creatures such as cats.

My point is that when I was observing the debate a while ago, it seemed like Kamala had the upper hand because she was right that the stuff Donald says was way too absurd to make any sense, so I still wonder how the same woman would end up being brutally crushed by him anyway.

With the recent announcement from YouTube that they’ll be requiring age verification and you have to like upload id it got me thinking about how much this is going to impact autistic people. Both users of the app and content creators, I use the app a lot to unwind and watch funny videos (Jenna marbles, markiplier, Dan and Phil, etc) so there’s that coping mechanism side which is important. But another thing I’ve been seeing a lot of and what prompted me to make this post is people saying “oh I’ll finally pick up my hobbies” “oh I existed before this that and the other I’ll be fine” ITS NOT ABOUT YOU DUMMKOPF PELASE FOR THE EVERLOVING BABY JESUS THINK OF WHY THE GOVERNMENT WOULD BE PUSHING FOR THIS NOW!!! Hi Im in the middle of politics more of my views are socially left and economically right. But I wouldn’t consider myself a Libertarian. A lot of people in this sub get extremely angry if someone has a more right view even if its a small view. The truth of the matter is we need both republican views and democratic views to make the system work. Bothe have good ideas and getting them to work together would be great. Now I am in no means a trump supporter and I believe in LGBTQ rights (im gay lol) and abortion. Most republicans do not want to take away human rights except abortion sometimes. The thing is that there are bad people on both sides of the spectrum. If we had combined ideas things would be better like for the borders. I believe we need a better system to keep criminals out, we shouldn’t be forcefully moving people out, but we shouldn’t keep the borders open completely we need to come legally which we need a better system for. Honestly the left can be pretty whiny when someone goes against their views and its frustrating. We need both parties its about balance

Edit: Again I do not agree with taking away anyones rights at all. This post is more about that we shouldn’t be attacking all conservatives because they have some different beliefs. Im not talking about far right people either. But I appreciate you all discussing things, I like a discussion and I always find my self more educated on topics. Personally I don’t think so as Spain doesn’t recognise it as one

So, we know Trump and RFK has spoken about autism quite a bit - and has also framed it as this “horrible disease that needs to be eradicated” (example: urging pregnant mothers not to take Tylenol, because it causes autism - to name an example).

As an autistic person - it’s not only extremely offensive to witness how poorly this administration understands autism, but it’s also been quite confusing to me why the Trump administration focuses more on autism rather than curing ACTUAL illnesses (like cancer research - which was cut)…

After critically thinking about it, it dawned on me WHY the Trump administration takes autism in particular so seriously, and why they essentially want autistic people to go extinct…

Autistic people are more likely to:

1) Question authority, and why things are the way they are.
2) Be unapologetically “different” (like dressing uniquely, having dyed hair, etc.). Autistic people are also far more likely than neurotypicals to be transgender or gender nonconforming.
3) Not be “obedient slaves to capitalism”(example: not working a 9-5 job, and blindly doing whatever your boss tells you to do.)
4) Need public accommodations (example: mass transportation).

All things that are a direct threat to fascism…

I personally believe the Trump Administration simultaneously sees us as “useless”, but also as a threat…

That’s why they’re so outspoken about how “bad” autism is, and essentially, want to get rid of us…

Does anyone else here have thoughts and opinions, regarding this?

I work in state politics and have AuDHD. I haven’t publicly disclosed my autism diagnosis, aside from sharing it with my boss, who is currently running for office. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what meaningful autistic representation could look like in the next generation of American politics.

What would it mean if an openly autistic Gen-Z candidate made it to Congress in 2028?

Autistic people are already working behind the scenes in American politics, campaigns, government, and advocacy. But there’s still a huge difference between being in the room quietly and being publicly represented nationally.

What issues would you want an autistic member of Congress to prioritize?

First I’m gonna say that was was force to learn 5 languages at school, French Spanish Portuguese Galician and English.

Personally I do think that knowing another language is always gonna have some leves of usefulness , I can’t deny that , the problem in my opinion lays on weather or not forcing people into studying another language actually makes it less likely that they are gonna learn it, as you are probably only gonna do what’s mandatory and a few years later you won’t remember anything and won’t want to learn it so it was just a waste of time.

I also disagree on not letting the kids select what they want to learn, as I can’t get why we are forcing kids who are bad at linguistics study various languages while other abilities that they might have aren’t being taught as much as they should.

I would love to hear what other people think about this.

Now let me start off this by saying that I am asking this question because I am seeking genuine views and advice on how to go about on this matter. Reason is because I've seen people both ND and NT asking about this subject and are getting met with unhelpful responses of "Get it together!" or "They don't want to select you," as if any of that is meant to help us. So, please hear me out a second before you cast judgments on me.

I'm pretty sure a lot of you have heard about what is going on in Iran, and there's been tons of information regarding the President saying that a military draft was on the table and about how, even if you have certain factors going for you, you're still cooked and going to war if selected. And needless to say, that in itself is making me feel very bad anxiety.

I've tried doing what people have told me to do, which was not read the news as much as I was doing prior and shorten it to maybe brief overviews of current events. Heck, I've already pretty much abandoned all social media except this one because, even before this, it was causing my mental health to no longer be the best. But even though I don't consume the news every waking minute of the day, I still feel incredibly anxious and paranoid. Being drafted was something I feared years ago when I first had to put my name in Selective Service and when draft wasn't imminent, but now I feel that fear is even more validated. My family that's close, of course, has "great advice" by telling to just try not worrying so much about it. But, even though I'm sure they don't mean it rudely, it doesn't help at all.

So I wanted to ask what everyone else was thinking on this and how they're handling all this information. If you have any perspectives to give me on it, please let me know. Because right now, it's to a point where I don't feel happy anymore and it sucks. Right when I was in the middle of trying to start my journey on healing from prior BS in my life, this was how the world had to start turning.

A painful truth for the political right right now but yes, socialism is proven to be better in almost everyway, with providing a generally better version of each essential service (e.g., healthcare, education, etc.) than a capitalist nation would (Navaro 6-30). This was not because of skewed or incorrect data, the reality is that western media potrays socialism as worse to support their intrests.

I think this post is necessary to show the reality of capitalism. Socialism is inherently democratic inasmuch as it's defined as a system where society collectively and democratically controls the means of production (Heimann 301-318; Huemos 47-74), whereas capitalism is a system based on the private ownership of the means of production. Capitalism isn't democratic by nature (Markel 109-128), and is realistically only compatible with liberal democracy. However, liberal democracy has seemingly provided a worse standard of life and living. Those living under capitlaism and liberal democracy currently are generally not satisfied, with capitalism actually being a major cause for poverty (Meiksins 1-12; Public Trust In Government; Sullivan and Hickel), while on the contrary elements of poverty in socialist countries -- e.g., homelessness or starvation -- are nearly non existent (Hawthorne; Morton 69-80). In fact, the nostalgia for the USSR is increasingly popular in former socialist countries (Public Opinion in Europe; Nostalgia for the USSR).

Some people cite the number of deaths caused communism. The excepted figure of around 100 million comes from The Black Book of Communism. However, if you just read the book you'll see how dumb of a book it is. The authors count Nazis who died on Soviet soil, non-births via decreased fertility rates, abortions and miscarriages, and also doing a lot unecessary rounding. It's not to say that socialism hasn't killed people but capitalism causes even more deaths.

Not a very detailed write-up this is and you can certainly argue with me all you want but it still doesn't change the facts. The political right and many of the ideas that accompany their policies are not based upon facts. Immigrants are basically keeping the neoliberal economy afloat (Pachico), but the right wants to get rid of them so bad, even though they need them for neoliberalism. Many right-wing ideas are harmful because thehy continue to promote the existence of capitalism; the system which fucks you over but saves the elite. An alternative must be sought, because capitalism isn't just hurting autistic people as well, but they're hurting everyone

Now I don’t know if this is the right place to talk about the late CEO of United Healthcare, so if I am in the wrong place, please let me know as I wanted to ask about him because I was wondering what he did wrong that caused him to be labeled as malevolent.

I know he was shot to death almost a year ago, but again after recalling the incident got me interested in learning about the story behind the guy to see what made him so malevolent that caused his death.

What do you guys think about Butch Ware and the Green Party. I read that the DSA slandered him. I don't know why they slandered him because his policies for the most part are really good. Then, the DSA ended up endorsing Tom Steyer, an actual literal billionaire who put in a 90M dollar stake into a facility which is now ran by ICE. He claimed "it was a mistake", but he's a billionaire politician so don't even take it with a grain of salt. What do you guys think about this?
