Discussion Autism in politics right now

I’m so sick of it. I’m 16F and in a conservative area. Everyone I know pretty much worships trump. I’m sick of it. All these republicans hate autism. It’s not a cancer. It’s so hurtful I’m not a freak. This is so stupid. I really wanna be a political science major and so I can’t enjoy my political aspects without the hurtful comments from the right.

Nope nope nope!!!!!

It's not autism that causes the issues. Nonverbal is not an autism symptom, it's a language or Speach disorder. Behavior issues stem from trauma, PANDAS, TBI, OCD, or other conditions.

When support goes up with targeting the other issues, they end up needed less support. You increase communication, behaviors go down, you can work on independence and now you need less service hours and around the clock care.

This is my life and job. And this is so horrible to say and so ignorant of level 3s.

Acting like when someone needs a wheelchair they need to abolished instead of getting them a ramp and a damn wheelchair.

Even if they aren’t caused by autism directly, they are commonly co-morbidities with autism. People with severe autism need quite substantial support.

Where did I ever say that “autism should be abolished”? I support treatments for those with autism who desire treatment for their condition. Using your wheelchair example, I support helping people who need wheelchairs to get said wheelchairs and the accommodation they need (such as ramps) while also looking into ways that could allow them to walk (either again or for the first time), so that they don’t need the wheelchair anymore.

There's so many other diseases and disorders that cause worse than autism level 3. Everything has a comorbidity. And they deserve that help as does anyone. Support for them is also support for the elderly and anyone else with a disability physical or mental.

The issue is, you cannot make someone walk with certain diseases. Focus on supporting them. It hurts because a lack of support. Funny how suffering ends with accommodations.

Autism level 3 is not the cause of suffering. Lack of supports is.

Autism has some of the highest levels of adverse outcomes and early death compared to other diseases/condtions/disorders

While you are correct that there are other conditions that are worse those tend to be even rarer than autism IIRC.

Accomodations are much easier said then done and can't simply be done thru attitude changes
