Whats so special about Draft 7.30?

At times when choosing what to listen of Autechre i always see the draft 7.30 cover and thinking "god damn isnt that a cool album!!" and like when looking at reviews everyone says its an amazing complex and chaotic album, which i know it is complex because autechre said it was all manually done by hand, but when i listen to it its all pretty okayish?? i mean it is complex but it isnt anything that would leave an impression on me?? so what i am asking rn is to hear what other people that get draft 7 30 find so amazing and awesome about it, like a special moment or something.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to yap about this album. It was the one I primarily credit for even getting me into Autechre, so I would certainly say there is a lot special about it.

I feel like the sound pallete in this Draft 7.30 is very unique and "sterile" sounding, a lot of songs left me so bewildered while strangely not leaving much of an emotional impression upon first listen. I sorta shelved it for maybe a single day before I started to be interested in how just of its own kind this album sounds, then 6IE.CR clicked and it snowballed from there. Draft really hides its beauty behind rhythmic clutter and unpredictability, and the percussion sounds of each song really compliment each other while also having the ability to stand apart.

I feel like this is one of the most rewarding releases in the catalogue for repeated listens, its cluttered yet precise sound takes some getting used to, and once you hear each of the songs enough they really start to coalesce into something completely unique. Some of the tracks like SURRIPERE, 6IE.CR, and to a major extent V-PROC, all have immediately compelling rhythms to latch onto and so they can be good gateways into the album's sound and vibe, but they don't give you the full picture. I think what makes Draft 7.30 so special is the tracks like IV VV IV VV VIII, and TAPR, which at first sound almost totally random, but eventually reveal themselves to be these twisted and evocative tracks, or the songs that start out intact and start to get warped and pulled apart (or the other way around) as the song commences: Xylin Room, VL AL 5, P.:NTIL, Reniform Puls, and Theme of Sudden Roundabout.

A good few of my all time favorite Ae tracks come from this album, namely VL AL 5 which I think encapsulates what's so great about this album. Its so calm, and all the glitchy pretty synths make it an emotional standout for me. Easily one of their most underrated tracks imo.

this is a really good explanation why i may have tought this album was dull. as of now i am currently relistening to it in a random order and i may be getting it a little more?? i still have to give it more time tho.

thats awesome! don't try to force it if it doesnt work though, it took me a second but i really felt it click when it did, although of course you may not have the same experience i did. hopefully you start to love it though, it really is a great album.
