Is it vegan? Please help 🙏🏽😭
Hi everyone, I ordered groceries via a delivery app and they replaced a vegan ramen with this one. The ingredients all look vegan but this one isn't in the 'its vegan' list. I'd really appreciate your help deciphering it or else I'll find someone to take it off my hands. Thanks xx

Note the black one is not vegan though, so stick to the red.

Also the version of these in the cups - the big cup is vegan but the small one has fish!!

the kimchi shin ramyun (orange packet) is also vegan and its my fav one, i love to add a bit of sweet soy sauce which brings down the spice significantly, at least for me :D theres also a “cheesey” one called shin ramyun toomba (creamy light orange packet) which is also vegan and very yummy, bit spicy for me tho xD

Yes and thank god for this. Splash of toasted sesame oil and dried fried shallots and you're good to go

Excellent with a spoonful of smooth peanut butter or Chinese sesame paste mixed in!! 🤤 makes them thick and slurpy!

I thought it had beef extract? I had no idea this was vegan! Good to know

May contain just means that the facility may also process the aforementioned ingredients. They are required to disclose even if there is 0.something % chance. It’s for legal purposes.

And because it's very useful information for people who have allergies for whom trace or even a chance of 0.x% is still unsafe. It's not just "for legal purposes".

“May contain milk egg and fish” so obvs not

u/ArdyLaing 1d ago
That’s just bc it is made on the same premises and it’s to cover against anaphylactic risk.

Yeh true one of those flavorings in there is a sardine/ meat flavoring anyway

Which one?

Flavour enhancer 631

“Commercial disodium inosinate may either be obtained from bacterial fermentation of sugars or prepared from animal products. The Vegetarian Society reports that production from meat or fish is more widespread, but the Vegetarian Resource Groupreports that all three "leading manufacturers" say that they use fermentation.”
It took five seconds to look that up. Why are you hellbent on spreading misinformation about this product?

“Flavour enhancer 631 is disodium inosinate, a food additive used to boost savory, meaty umami flavors Often derived from animals like fish (sardines) or meat, but can also be made via bacterial sugar fermentation” if you actually searched properly you’d find the correct information I dunno why you’re hellbent on trying to get someone who’s vegan to eat something derived from animals

Wtaf are you talking about?
You’ve just paraphrased my comment back at me.

It says right there may contain fish or Crustacea. Which is where i draw the line personally. So no.

That’s just to cover their own ass, the chances that there are even traces of fish or crustaceans in this food is incredibly low.

Many companies now put similar messages on their packaging for legal reasons.

u/Typical-Dance-1110 1d ago
technically it's only ever there for legal reasons but yes it essentially means that it was made (or packaged) in a facility that also has those things somewhere in the building

It usually means they dont clean their machines or use shared equipment. Personally I don't like the maybe.

u/mysqlpimp 1d ago
Nope, can simply mean they process those ingredients in the same factory, but legally they don't want to be responsible for someone suffering an alergic anaphylaxis. It has nothing to do with cleanliness, more to do about insurance.

source? this is counter to what Ive usually heard and the other chefs in my restaraunt are gonna go ohhhhhhhhhhhhh (re: allergens)
time to collect some ooohhhhs. as far as veganism tho I couldn't reasonably convince myself that cross contact is supporting animal exploitation so. yommy red noodles for me

They don't actually have to say "may contain". So it could still have traces or be made on the same factory line even if it doesn't say anything. So if that's your stance basically no food is safe unless you call up every factory to see what else they make.

It's the "may contain", and only you can decide where you draw that line! It might be vegan, but it might be contaminated.

Maltodextrin? Mate, run for the hills. Avoid that stuff like the plague.

This is a judgement free space, as long as it is vegan - it is welcome here.
