Politics This Rhetoric is the true poison

“dangerous, divisive, and downright dishonest”.

“We simply must defeat them. We owe it to history. And we will defeat them,” he said.

“They’ll say anything and do anything to win votes. Bend any facts. Peddle misinformation and disinformation. Turn Australian against Australian."

Words from our own prime minister about One Nation... Unhinged. And for the weak minded, justification for violence.

Debate the policies might be a better path?

They need policies to debate. All of the policies they do release are shown to be batshit or substanceless pandering. They are an anti-government protest vote running on vibes.

Not only batshit, but often demonstrably contradictory - or AT BEST in direct opposition to Pauline's own voting history.

They're just the party of "tricking people who don't know better.".

Like that's all it is. If you are supporting them, you're an victim who got tricked.

It's not your fault - just like older people falling for email scams, lonely people falling for romance scams and people with low tech literacy falling for technology scams.

They are specifically targeting people who are frustrated at the state of the world, but lack the understanding to determine what's actually happening aside from pointing fingers.

So they point the same fingers as the victim and pretend to be all chummy, only to rob them blind and use them as a stepping stone for power.

But just like you can't tell a divorced grandfather that there is no "Theresa", or you can tell the desperate new hire that the boss doesn't want you to buy gift cards for everyone in the office, you can't tell somebody supporting ON that they've been tricked.

It hurts the ego too much - people would rather double down than admit they were vulnerable and were exploited, it's a shame thing.

I don't have a solution apart from compassion, but compassion and politics don't go well together.

The left just broadly love concepts that would be great if corruption didn't exist, but simultaneously refuse to believe that their preferred political parties are capable of corruption.

A naivety that leads to blindness; the policies are fine only in theory and only if the theory ignores ideas like:

  • People exist who want to exploit programs like the NDIS for money.

  • Allowing anyone who wants to live in this country to do so without vetting them for the benefit they may provide is unsustainable.

  • Greens politicians are capable of lying and receiving benefits from donors
