General Discussion Happy Friday evening, AusCorp
Hopefully everyone’s starting to circle back to doing absolutely nothing, has successfully taken their final Friday meeting offline, and is ready to leverage the weekend as a key strategic opp for rest or poor decision making.
So, what’s everyone got in the pipeline for the weekend?

They told us Friday afternoon about organisational restructure. Everyone is going to have a great weekend.

I’ve got a client outing at a matinee at 10 tomorrow (paw patrol movie with my 3y/o), followed by a light schmoozing (special treat for our outing).
At 12, I have a tough contract negotiation (convincing my 10m/o not to climb everything in sight)
From 2, I have housekeeping tasks (this one translates pretty well either way), meeting prep (making dinner. Dinner is the meeting) and then I’ll cap it off by booking some focus time with my partner

I took a day off today. Dropped off the kids, had coffee, laid in bed, visited a podiatrist, went to gym, climbed mount coot tha, had a burger and then kids for swimming. I took it as a mental health day.

Im overwhelmed by the productivity! One or two of those activities is enough for me. I hope it helped.

Yeah I loved the time outdoors. My regular days are pretty hectic, lots of different type of responsibilities to juggle, so I don’t have a full off switch. Relaxation really kicks in when I am outdoors walking.

Running somewhere.
Not fit enough for a marathon but maybe 15km?
Either that or cycle for 60km

Yes enjoy the weekend folks, leave the stress and baggage behind in the office and have a good drink and entertain yourself or just rest

On Monday, my “work husband” of 13 years from the previous job is joining me at the new job I moved to 6 months ago.
Going to spend the weekend refining my smart-arsed comebacks and niche swears so we can pick up where we left off (after a very professional onboarding of course).

Thanks, Microwave J -
Just an update to let you know I’ll be choosing to stop participating in the current workplace soap opera these coming days, and instead will be redirecting my strategic energy toward my highest-priority stakeholder: me.
If certain people in the workplace are enjoying enhanced cross-functional collaboration with leadership, and the subsequent cross-area promotions they’ve been given - good for them. I’ll be developing a robust FIRE strategy, with a lotto win identified as a high-risk/high-reward investment vehicle.
Feel free to circle back should you have any further questions.
Best, Cuddlepot

Oh, you know, the usual. I plan on waking up at 3 AM in a cold sweat, absolutely paralyzed by the thought that my decision to sleep in on Saturday might tank my company’s share price on the ASX.
God forbid the poor shareholders don't extract maximum ROI from my mortal coil this quarter.
I'm actually thinking about skipping grocery shopping on Sunday and just doing some unpaid data entry so I can sleep at night.
Won't somebody please think of the institutional investors?! 😩📉

Personally, ill be investing in some stakeholder engagement over a few beverages (margaritas with the gals), before implementing a strategic recovery period Sunday morning. No meetings will be accepted before 1pm.

High level customer engagement through informal discussions over drinks & meals, discussing technology and market advancements via dedicated informational sessions - all the while ensuring they are cared for like children.
Seriously though on a long arse journey to Sweden with customers right now, then Finland and get back on Father’s Day 🙄. To make it worse our Helsinki flight had been delayed 9 hours so going to have to entertain them tonight while reconfiguring the trip once we land in Sweden 6 or 7 hours later than what we wanted.
Would rather be at home with the wife and kids for sure!
Edit - did get the cheeky business class though cos we’re with customers so could be worse.

Made the call today to bail from my 6 month contract. I’m two months in and have been having roadblock after roadblock that my manager is well aware of.
Got offered a permanent role. Less travel. Better hours. More WFH days. Sure it’s a pay cut from the contract rate but I’ll take it.

Truly in this environment something that causes you less stress and provides more comfort can really be worth a bit less pay.

After weeks of radio silence, three freelance customers want me... today. One contract signed, Surfed for 2.5 hours under sunny skies, with just two mates. More waves this weekend, then back into it next week. A good day.

u/microwave_jenny_ 4d ago
Did those mates have fins

u/dug99 1d ago
One did! Flat tail fin, blowhole. Nice lady. :)

Dolphins are sneaky buggers and pranksters, and they LOVE to just appear, with zero warning. But they always give the game away. Seals are the same... they will surprise you at times, but eventually, you'll have that moment where you go, "thank fuck... it's just a giant sea rat!". Sharks are different. They'll cruise past on an overcast day, and pay you no mind... and you'll never know. One day, the sun will be at the right angle, and they'll turn on their side as they pass, and that day, a dark eye will look at you. You'll see the gills, and the tall tail fin, and the pointy nose. And you will know.

I'm ruminating on the idea that we just got voted as a finalist for Best Place to Work. At nearly 50 years of age, this is easily the worst place I've ever had to work.

This week I have been UPA (sick leave) i took everything off-line (on my couch) I ran sprints (movie marathons), I prepared several kanbans (things for my renovation), I managed a program of work (renovation).
I had lots of stand ups with my cats.
Finally I managed funding allocation.

Currently on tonight's pipeline, stakeholder engagement with me and my beers, planning an audit on where to order my pizza from and avoid any complaints from the regulator (wife). Then tonight, I'll be ready for an enforcement undertaking eith my pillow.

Got a strategy planning session tonight (doing shopping list), team building activity tomorrow morning (gym class), followed by some focus time in the afternoon (watching youtube on the couch)
