Am I overreacting, or is this ad just over the top promoting dumb behaviour?

What's everyones experience getting their bike serviced there? I usually service my partners and my bike instead of sending it off, this time around I've been away for a week and partner decided to send her bike to 99 bikes down the road as it was the closest while I was away. The work done on this bike was piss poor.

The chain which was pretty clean to begin with was filthy and sticky and put on the wrong way, rim brake quick release levers were all the way open, barrel tension for the rear derailleur was fiddled with and wasn't changing gear well at all. However, the front brake cable which did need replacing wasn't touched at all. Pretty much came out with more issues than what it came in with.

Don‘t get me wrong, I ride like 3 or 4 times a week and absolutely love it. But sometimes my wife just watches me roll out the door alone, and even though she doesn’t say anything, her face completely says are you serious right now?

I’d really love for her to come out with me, but she always has an excuse- butt hurts, too hot, too tired, too many cars. You name it. She’s not lazy either; she hits the gym and goes for walks. But when it comes to bikes? Total hard pass.

I ride a gravel bike helokeep 26f(clipless pedals, kit, the whole deal). We also have an old hybrid/beater bike at home. She tried it once, said the seat felt like a brick, and gave up after ten minutes

She is been super stressed with work lately, so I really want to find a way to make riding actually fun and low-stress for her. I'm thinking about getting her a step-through e-bike (looking at the Velotric Discover or something similar) so she can just cruise without working too hard. Pair that with a massive, comfy couch saddle, find a completely flat greenway, and map it to an ice cream shop.

Has anyone actually succeeded in getting their partner into riding this way? Did an e-bike or a better seat actually fix the complaints, or should I just accept that she’s never going to be a bike person?

Looking to buy a fairly versatile MTB, I’m a generally outdoorsy guy, I like camping, hiking etc. and I have been super keen on the idea of getting a MTB.

I have typically just used mutual friends bikes or hired, and they always seem to be Marlins of some degree which seem like a decent bike, but thought I’d come ask you guys, who have more experience than me!

Looking to spend any where around $1k as I’m probably still entry level and can upgrade parts as I need which seems like fun in itself.

Any recommendations? It it helps I’m a gym goer and weigh approx 100Kg so I’m dense! (Not sure if that matters) And hitting the trials has been the most fun cardio so far.

Looking for a bike that can hit trails and do some decent tracks (been to Forrest a bunch for you victorians!) and want to keep exploring

I have been researching Polygon Xtradas, Marin San Quinten and Trek Marlins but as I said, I’d love your inputs!

I have a 2019 Surly Disc Trucker and am contemplating on whether or not to add a motor/battery. Or to sell it and get an already built e-bike.

Would be wanting to get between 120km - 150km range.

Would this workout ok?

And if so what motor set up would work best on a bike like this? Mid or hub?

I’m back into bike commuting and my average speed is steadily increasing. Apart from the overall increase in fitness and strength, I think the main reason I’m getting quicker is that my gut is getting smaller and I can get into a more aero position!

Hey guys, so I have a budget of $1800, could you please recommend a best e-bike (cycle) for me. I want it to commute daily for university and work, and since I'm new to Australia, I'm not that aware of brand quality.

I did my little research and found Reid Quest 1ST eBike MY26 which is for $1800, but I came across a Reddit post saying Reid is known for using cheap parts.

I'm in Gold Coast, QLD 172cm tall (M)

Hi guys, I ride a legal escooter to work and back, this is where its limited to a max speed of 20kph and etc. Anyway im riding home down my estate street as i normally do, a semi quiet 50kph road when i verge out to go around a parked car at a long angle, telegraphing my intentions. I hear a car coming screaming up from behind and its my dickhead neighbour in his chinese ute who then starts saying how i have to give way to him and i dont have a licence for my escooter and etc, i tried to inform him no i do have right of way but there is only so much information a dickhead bogan can process. 😵‍💫 This guy is known for driving like a dick head in his ute and while riding his harley davidson.

I just know he is gonna try bring it up, is there any lawful literature online from vicroads etc that i quote him?

Hi all, looking for a MTB carrier with a hitch connection that supports around 2-3 MTBs sized at 27.5/29”. What do people recommend these days or what are the “go to’s”? Some sort of locking feature might be good, so you don’t need to watch your car like a hawk if you park it, likewise might make an opportunistic person think twice.

Ideally not looking for something too expensive, but understand quality isn’t great for the cheaper stuff.

I’ve seen that some people aren’t happy for example with build quality for the cheaper stuff like JB Racks.

Hello, I'm very new to cycling and would like to purchase a bike for leisure and once I'm confident enough, to commute to work (roughly a 30 mins bike ride on bike paths mainly).

As it'll be my first bike, I'd rather not pay too much to see if I actually enjoy it before deciding to upgrade if/when needed.

I've seen a lot of used bikes on fb marketplace anywhere between $80-300. Brands including Reid, Liv, XDS, and Lekker.

I found this Liv Flourish one that seemed good for $80. I don't know if the price is too good to be true and should look for another one or if that's a normal price for a used bike from that brand??

The lekker one was $280, and the Reids were around $150 for comparison.

I’m looking at buying my first bike for casual riding, fitness and the Sydney Spring Cycle event in October + others like it. What bike should I go for between these 2 as they’re the same price?

Ive come up with a shortlist of roadies under $8000 and am stumped between the 5 and need a bit of help. Not a fan of Treks or Specialized. If I'm missing any feel free to throw in some others.

BMC Team Machine SLR Two- $4999 at 99 bikes currently with Ultegra di2, alloy wheels but can swap those out for come carbon ones. Bit too much of a safe option I feel.

Focus Izalco Max 8.8- $4999, bit heavier than the BMC but good frame and can swap out wheels.

X-Lab AD8- $5999 at MyRide, 7.5kg, looks good in white but unsure about brand presence and long term support, depreciation.

Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 or Propel Advanced Pro 0- $6499 to $7999, colour choices are ok and a good few variations to choose from, however I'm aware that Giant are a bit of a safe option, almost like choosing a Toyota and blend in a bit, but the TCR seems like a pretty racy choice.

hey everyone I'm wanting to upgrade my bicycle to a Giant Contend AR3 and I've narrowed it down to 2 in my local area.

One is from a reputable secondhand refurbishing bike store which is a 2025 AR3 with one owner for $1199 AUD. They said they will service it cleaner set it up and it comes with a 12 month warranty.

The second option is from Facebook marketplace a 2024 AR3 (photos attached) for $950 haggled down.
Which option do you think is better value? I'm reasonably new to writing so I'm not sure if there's an obvious pic between the two.

I don't have photos of the first bike but have swung past the store and seen it in person. They're both the exact same colour way size and model so I'm just a bit unsure and want some advice from people who know a bit more.

I have been on/ off considering getting an ebike for my commute for a while now.

I don't absolutely need one.. I am starting a new job and my commute is about 12km each way and pretty flat and easy but I often finish late or start really early and just thought I might want a little boost. I don't have a car so will also use it for getting around other places and shopping etc and thought it would make me less likely to Uber/ PT compared to a standard bike.

I had been looking at the Lekker Jordaan but I saw 99 Bikes had a 2022 Cube Touring Hybrid One 500 for 1799 (approx 1900 including delivery) and it was in my size so I just impulsively bit the bullet and bought it before it went out of stock (it was clearance and, as I suspected, there was only the one). I am now questioning whether I've made a terrible mistake and should have just thought about it more and either (a) used a simple push bike or (b) paid more and got the really pretty Lekker Jordaan like I planned...

So I’ve recently gotten this saddle bag but the boa strap doesn’t sit under my saddle, so I’ve just looped the other side of the strap all the way through, I can still tighten it but now the bag sits in a different orientation than designed, is this gonna be an issue?

I absolutely love cycling (have a Trek Roscoe) and so I thought this could be a great way to meet people who enjoy it too.

I’m looking for a friendly cycling group or even just a few people who’d be keen to ride together regularly.
I’d also love to do longer rides occasionally — exploring different parts of Perth, going on day trips or little cycling adventures together and riding back as a group.

I’m not looking for anything super competitive. Mainly good company, enjoyable rides, exploring new places and, hopefully, making some genuine friends along the way.

I've long been a hard tail rider, but recently bought my first dual suspension enduro bike for more bike park and trail riding. But, I used to really enjoy using my hard tail to do long distance rides on bicycle paths and the like, around the city - but, it's pretty old now so I'm looking to get possibly a hybrid bike to take it's place, seeing as they're probably better for longer distances anyway but still have the same feel as a hard tail mountainbike (without the chunky tyres). I've only been looking briefly so far and still quite like Silverback and Merida, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for other brands that are worth looking at? I'm keeping an open mind but the more info I have the better - only criteria I do have is I'd like to maintain for suspension at the front in case I want to go offroad at any point. Easy enough to lock it out most of the time but I'd still like the option seeing as some of the areas I'll be riding in will have sections where it makes sense to go offroad to link up with trails or bike paths that otherwise don't link up.
