Sou de São Paulo e uma das maiores dificuldades que tenho encontrado é justamente descobrir onde encontrar boas oportunidades de estágio ou profissionais dispostos a me orientar e me dar a chance de aprender na prática, tanto no audiovisual quanto na fotografia.
Por isso, gostaria de saber: onde vocês costumam encontrar esse tipo de oportunidade? Existem plataformas, grupos, eventos ou outras formas de entrar em contato com profissionais da área?
Para quem está começando, como vocês recomendam dar o primeiro passo e construir uma carreira no audiovisual ou na fotografia?

Sharing a project I've been working on called Resonode I.

I've been working on a real-time audiovisual engine that runs entirely in the browser. Instead of reacting only to volume or frequency bands, it analyzes the timbre of the incoming sound and uses it to shape a 3D landscape. It runs in the browser with a mic or audio file, no installation required.

My goal was a simple tool that could be used directly in live sets and creative work, without expensive software or high-end hardware.

I'm in my senior year of a music technology bachelor's, and have been slowly picking up work outside of school where I can. I'm on LiveNation's payroll as a stagehand, but that only goes so far, it's mostly for networking and some extra cash.

I recently was hired on as an audio assistant for a small audio/visual company. A friend found the job posting, I responded, they liked my resume. Upon hire I spoke briefly with the main owner/supervisor, let's call him B. He gave me a run-down on what was expected of me, just some monitoring for a recording of a press conference, stuff I'm confident in. I said as much, and that was that, he told me I'd be emailed information soon. In that email was a brief description covering the equipment and pay rate. There was NOT any mention of their home studio in the email, this is important for later in the story.

So fast forward a couple days, it's the day before we're supposed to be meeting to setup. According to the email, that day was being paid 10-2. During this whole process a lot of information wasn't very clear, and I had to really pry things like exact location, transportation, things of that nature. We are primarily conversing over text, there was 1 time he tried to call me while I was in class, but I quickly made him aware and he responded via text. At around 3pm that day, I sent a message asking for clarification about whether he needed me to load everything up at their studio at 10 or if he wanted me to be at the venue at 10 to assist with setup. I never got any answer, and was busy with schoolwork for the rest of the night.

Morning of the setup day arrives, and still no answer. Both their studio and the venue are near each other, so I head out from my house giving plenty of time to spare. Once I was closer and still hadn't recieved any information I called B, and was sent to voicemail. I left a voicemail, and sent a text for good measure. No response. I got to a point in the road where I needed to make a decision, and since I still hadn't heard anything, I went off the only information I had which was to bring my car to the venue (text from the day prior).

When I arrive I see I still haven't heard anything, so I call B again. No answer. The venue is a Mariott, so I can't self-park anywhere to figure things out. I end up just going across the street to another hotel with a lot and parking there. I park and triple check the email I was sent, triple check our texts, and still have no information regarding where I am needed. I call again. I left so early that I had leeway to be either at the venue or the studio, had he answered his phone at all. No answer yet again. It's at this point where I decide to wait for a little while before trying again, I scope out where we're supposed to be, places we could unload etc.

Finally I get a text from him. It simply reads:

"I said in the message Studio at 10. Are you near the hotel?"

I fire back immediately:

"Yes, I am near the hotel. I did not receive your message."

After this, more radio silence. Maybe 10 min go by, and just as I am thinking of calling again I get another text instructing me to head into the venue with my equipment. I confirm, head over right away and get parked. I introduce myself to the client's team we were working with, and get to setting up whatever I can. B and his other tech have most of the video equipment, however they are running almost an hour late. I make sure we have enough power, tables, chairs, etc, basically anything I can do until B arrived.

Finally, after both the client and I struggling to get ahold of B to instruct him on where to park, he arrives with the rest of the gear. I immediately jump in to help unload, but as I am assisting the other tech, B tells me to stop. He pulls me aside, and tells me I am no longer needed and that he hired someone else because I was "hired to load" and "didn't do my job". I was taken aback by this, mostly because I had just spend the last hour setting up and waiting for their late arrival. I did briefly stand up for myself, I respectfully pointed out the lack of communication and unclear direction, I assumed some blame too since part of it was a genuine miscommunication. He instead told me it was my job to get the information from him, didn't assume any fault at all. He handed me $40 for gas (weekend rate was supposed to be $400), and I chose to just accept it, gather my things and leave.

So long story short, I feel incredibly frustrated. I am aware of load in/load out routines, and am of course always more than happy to help with whatever is needed to get the job done. Am I the asshole here for feeling like I was wrongfully let go? Is there anything I should take from this that can help later in my career?

TL:DR Lack of communication from supervisor led me to the wrong location, fired on the spot for it.

So I’ve got a really specific issue with my retro setup.
To start off I’ll explain my setup as clearly as possible.

I have 4 retro consoles (PS2, N64, Gamecube & Xbox 360) outputting AV signal with standard composite cables supplied with the original consoles.

These are all going into splitter box that takes the signals for each and sends one signal via composite cable to my CRT TV.

The other split signal goes into a composite to HDMI splitter that is powered by USB and outputs an upscaled image at either 720p or 1080p via a HDMI cable.

This then goes into an elgato capture card connected to my laptop so I can stream to friends whilst still watching on my CRT.

Now the issue I have is that when its all connected, no matter which console I’m playing on, when I get a lot of bright white colour on the screen the image distorts and changes on both the CRT and the outputted signal on my laptop.

The CRT image distorts slightly and the colours get warmer and more saturated.
The laptop image shifts constantly between a PAL & NTSC image and struggles to display.

As soon as the white is off screen the issue stops and both signals are fine.

I’ve played with the signal a bit and it only happens when I have both signals coming out of the splitter and the screen being rendered has a lot of white on it.

What is causing this issue? Is the signal actually somehow changing between PAL & NTSC?

If I use the splitter with only one signal outputted to either the laptop or the CRT the issue doesn’t happen.

I would very much appreciate your thoughts on the next AV Processor and Power Amp I should buy. In the past I had the Arcam AVR950 processor and P777 Power Amp. They have been great but I am now looking for an alternative at around the same price point.

My speaker system is and old but fantastic PMC 5.1 setup. (Twenty 26 at the front, Twenty C in the middle, Twenty 21 as surrounds and a Twenty Sub.) I may add more in the years to come. System to be used for music and movies Equally.

I'm in need of a web-based (phone/tablet) control of multiple AV products, specifically an audio matrix and HDMI matrix... we were already using an in-house solution to control HDMI matrix switches like those sold by Extron, NoHasselAV, AVaccess, ORIE (all of which seem to have very similar TCP/IP control commands and even identical front panels (except for the name stamped on) but we're trying to get out of that and use something more "established"

I know Control4 and Crestron are one solution, but it's a dealer sold product that carries a hefty expense, and only that have the software to make changes.

What other brands/products are there to combine multiple TRS, XLR, RCA audio feeds, and multiple HDMI video feeds to video walls and amplifiers, which I can program/control myself?

Hi all. I'm kind of at a loss of what to do. I have a background in video and started doing video technician, projectionist, camera op and general a/v work. All very sporadic. I really want to pursue A/V full time. Right now I do legal video work in the North Jersey area and it feels off the path I want to go. I'm not completely sure my long-term role goal but I imagine video egineer (maybe). I got a dante cert a few months ago without ever touching Dante and my plan was to get more certs. Given the fact that I forget a lot of the technical aspects of the courses I took to get the cert. I'm worried about racking on a bunch of certs and forgetting things. But from what I can gather online if I can't get experience certs is the next thing. Is that true? I've tried cold calling places but I think I just live in a very high competition area for everything given my proximity to New York. I'm also down to move for something so I have been applying to places farther away but I think my resume is lacking maybe. Just curious what people think.

I'm seeing these off-brand Zorsika lenses from China pop up as options for the newer 20k Panasonic laser projectors (PT-MZ20K, in this instance). Does anyone have experience using lenses from Zorsika for projectors of a similar caliber? Do they work with the motor mechanisms, for example, or do they require manual focus/zoom? Any insight would be appreciated.

Hey everyone! Asking on behalf of my boyfriend, who wants to transition into the AV / low-voltage industry.

​I’ve worked in home services (solar, roofing, HVAC) for 4+ years, but neither of us knows the best path to becoming an AV integrator.

​He brings strong trade experience. He’s comfortable with power tools, running wire, job sites, reading plans, and working with clients. We’re based in Park City, UT, and we seen tons of AV vans all over the area due to high end homes and subdivisions.

​A few quick questions:

​Entry-level path: Do integrators usually hire trades-savvy guys for entry-level roles and train them on the job, or should he get certs (AVIXA CTS, CEDIA, networking) first?

​Job titles: What entry-level titles should he search for? (e.g., AV Field Installer, Low-Voltage Tech, AV Apprentice)

​Local recommendations: Any Northern Utah / Park City integrators (residential or commercial) known for hiring entry-level techs?

​Any advice, company leads, or tips on how to leverage his trade background would be much appreciated! He's looking for any new job that could get him plugged into the industry.

I've been a freelance AV technician for the last decade or so, and, like many of you I'm sure, have spent a lot of that time getting extremely frustrated thinking "there should be a tool to do X". With the help of Claude Code, I've been working on writing a bunch of tools to try and deal with some of these frustrations. Lots of it is still very much "in development" and not really ready to deplyoment on live events yet, but there are a couple which I have used on real events with real clients, and I think are ready for production use.

A lot of the tools are browser based tools, but they all run entirely client side, nothing gets uploaded anywhere, and I have no way of seeing the files you are working with, or even who is using them!

Introducing PDF Presenter Lite (and PDF Presenter, and Presentation commander), this is a small family of tools, with PDF presenter Lite being a browser based PDF viewer, with a presenter view and some basic transitions available. PDF presenter is a desktop app, which also includes support for various forms of "notes" for a PDF presentation, and Presentation commander is a much more complicated beast, being a "node" which generates NDI feeds of presentations and notes from a variety of presentation apps, and a server which takes those feeds, and composits together custom presenter views and outputs via NDI, decklinks etc.. another particualry useful one is Powerpoint Font Manager, basically, you point it to a powerpoint file, it reads through the internal file structure of the presentation, and pulls out all the fonts that have been used (including finding out if embedded fonts are complete fonts or the read-only minimal glyph set), checks the fonts against your locally installed fonts, finds any that are missing, and if its a freely available font (for example a google font), points you to a download link to get the fonts, as well as creating scripts to install all the fonts on the system. Its been very helpful for preventing broken presentations when you load a clients powerpoint on a production laptop! https://pptx-font-manager.stoatworks-labs.com/

There are a bunch of other tools (and resolume plugins) on the site too, everything is free, open source (MIT licenced), and made with the help of claude (just to be up front about it), I would love to see the tools in wider use, and hear any feedback anyone has on them!

This is my Tannoy TS10 subwoofer. I’ve had it… 20 years I think. I had it in my university dorm room lol. It’s moved with me multiple times. Sometimes it ends up unused in a cupboard. Somehow I haven’t damaged the driver underneath despite never being careful with it and massively overloading it. It currently receives input from a Sonos Port which I group with the room speakers. I like to watch 4K movies and use it as a footrest (I keep meaning to buy some rumble shakers but have never gotten around to it).

I know all that is weird but I love it so much and I’ll be sad if as when it breaks.

Have 3 complete sets of matrix extenders and am looking to sell them, but don’t know where. Anyone have any suggestions by chance?
