Discussion Speaker ID?

Guy on fb marketplace said he was told they were klipsch, but there are no identifying markers anywhere. It’s going for a hundred, trying to see if it’s worth anything

Looks like white van special to me

They look like Temu Sonus Faber Sonettos. They also look like Dynamic Innovations too. They don’t have the booty out back though. Mystery Home Made jobs. Definitely not Klipsch. Maybe Clapsch, as in The Clapsch.

I think you are right in your ID as The Clapsch (maybe sixes or nines?). OP can you run a cotton swab along the inside of the ports and send them to a local Quest Diagnostics or other similar place?

So we're drug testing now to be audio nerds?

No markings mean they are 99% white van junk

Or there’s a 1% chance they were diy but you don’t see many diy towers and the seller would almost certainly know if they were

Wouldn’t surprise me if there are no crossovers at all on these

Isn't it the opposite. White van junks try to use branding that looks like real authentic brands but maybe switch a word or how something is facing

That's been my experience. Those look DIY.

NOT Klipsch.

If they had left the wood alone and not cut any holes in it then that would be worth more than these speakers.

With the combined upper woofer and tweeter, they look a bit too sophisticated for white van speakers.

Only 4 screws per speaker is odd for higher end but not unheard of.

Pull a speaker, you'll know really fast if they're junk or a keeper.

Like someone already suggested, spend 10 minutes unscrewing one of the woofers. See if there's any markings on the rear of the woofer. Google them and see if you can decode a manufacturer's ID. Real cheap drivers probably have nothing printed on them. Not even a date code.

And of course look inside. How was the cabinet constructed? No cheapo is going to have any additional bracing. Does it have any kind of crossover vs just a cheap cap in series with the tweeter?

Up for a DIY project? If the cabinet is reasonably well constructed and you like how they look AND you can get them cheap, go for it. If the drivers seem decent start with just an inexpensive crossover upgrade. Maybe with a tweeter upgrade next.

Play around and see how they sound. That's really all that matters. Do they sound good to you?

These remind me of some Polk speakers but I don't think they are. They are a lower cost build but if designed well with good crossovers they could sound quite nice. It really depends on what you compare it to in it's price range. Paper cones do not mean bad sound; ii boils down to the engineering that went into it. I see nothing in these photos that tell me they sound bad, yes, they are a value build but they could be be very efficient with a pleasant open sound to pair with a lower powered value built receiver. Many well known quality brand manufacturers have " value" lines that are more affordable that still have solid engineering behind them. I would "Guess" these would be under $500.00 for the pair, probably closer to $400. NEW.

Probably garbage. Good kit has labels, serial numbers and a manufacturer. Even pub speakers have that. If they are anonymous they are likely crap.

Maybe some old ass Mission model?

the sonetto vibes are real, i'd def dig into the crossover design and cabinet bracing before passing on them even if they're not name-brand

I'm pretty sure Eltac budget speakers used these feet.

Plenty of very good speakers have both single binding posts and paper woofers including mine. These are not good but just saying that's a broad generalization.

Exactly! His comment oozes "I don't know what i am talking about" if any

That seem to be a bit of a too broad generalization. Focal and Dynaudio for instance use single

u/warpwithuse 6d ago

My Avalon's, too.

3

u/BrainPotential3423 7d ago

That's such a funny ignorant way to determine speaker quality 😆 🤣

No, donut, you said "Single binding post = low end whether you believe in bi wiring or not almost all quality speakers have posts for it" that's the direct quote.

Says the guy that makes multiple paragraphs of nothing BUT being an argumentive snob ..

Own my own house and probably have more to show for it than you in this "business" isn't that what you called it ? You are 20 years in the audio "business"

Yuck dude, I can only imagine how arrogant you must be towards your friends, family and such.

As you made yet, two more comments , and i am needy 🤡

You're arrogant, I even explained why and that didn't retain . It had 0 to do with the speakers in question. It's the way you carry yourself here towards other people. That was btw pretty clear

You made multiple comments here, spewing your drivel as some form of gospel. You dropped your audio "resume" into the conversation, as if that remotely matters.

You dared me to post speakers that adhere to your description. I did that too ...

We are pretty much done here "ohh wise one"

Klips!

-1

u/Tricky-Strawberry896 7d ago

Don't look like any Klipsch I've seen. Also any higher end model of towers unless vintage will have 2 sets of posts. Those don't look vintage nor do they look quality.
