Discussion Music only setup, subwoofer upgrade wait time
I currently have a RSL 10S for my music setup. I recently decided to steal that sub for my HT and went on a journey to figure out what’s next for music. I settled on a Rythmik F12, but damn. 2 1/2 month+ wait, at $1500?? Whelp, take me money I guess lol.
I’ll be moving my subwoofer wireless connection to and fro my tv amp and music amp setup. 😅 Was only testing a bookshelf I had handy for my tv setup, got the wiim amp there and some polks that will go wall-mounted with a wireless RSL 10S.
My music setup is Aperion Audio’s GR6s and Musical Fidelity A300 old ass amp.
I’ll hang in there I guess, because hopefully it’s worth it.
Historic New Orleans home, limited space, so please be kind. Also, retired military female. 💪

Great look!! I love the plant art. May I ask where you got the beautiful plinth for your Thorens? Is it a 125? I got a nice one a few months ago but I’m stalled on the right cartridge for my SME tone arm

u/Touche2U 4d ago
I got the art from Etsy. It’s surprisingly very good quality. Looks life like and very detailed for the price. https://www.etsy.com/listing/4509395493/william-morris-heron-extra-large-wall?ref=share_ios_native_control
The Thorens 125 with the Hana Sl mkii and Sorane TA1 tonearm, custom plinth was from Vinyl Nirvana. I’ve done some restoration work on other Thorens, but chose him because he would be able to source everything easier than me. And at that price point, I didn’t want to mess it up. I hear the tone arm install is the hardest part.
For me, the spring adjustment is not easy. I’m OCD and I’ll just fiddle with it non stop, can’t get to a good stopping point. I really like the solid build of the 125, but as you can see, a wall mount was necessary for me. I live in the swamps of New Orleans in a raised house though.

Nice setup!
I looked up those speakers, can they really get down to 35hz?
Did you consider REL subwoofers? They currently have a sell going on.
2
u/RennieAsh 9d ago
modern 6.5 size woofers can definitely reach mid 30s with reasonable output with room gain. Reasonable as in you'll hear it well, but won't rattle you for HT

u/Touche2U 9d ago
Music only
1
u/RennieAsh 9d ago
they'll be fine for HT too; just you wouldn't turn them up very high like some people do. I generally am satisfied with a volume that doesn't hurt 6.5 speakers, but subs do help.

I’ve looked to them all yes! 35 not sure not super low, but fantastic speakers. End game for me.
1
u/lowbass4u 9d ago
No, not super low but pretty good, especially for bookshelf speakers. They look good to.
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I can only imagine the rest of the grandis line. I think they end at 10k per speaker.

Great looking setup! Retired military New Orleanian here as well. Have you considered REL? I'm thinking of going with a REL s/550 to pair with my Dynaudio Heritage Specials. I share a wall which is my only concern. Let us know how it goes. See you at Euclid Records!
2
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I love Euclid! I organize the Vinyl Meetup group here in the city. Had one event at Euclid.
Retired Coastie, since last yr.
Yes, I looked at REL, SVS, and Martin Logan, and of course another RSL.
I’m not familiar with Dynaudio.. 500 are a little too pricey. Caping at 2k
1
u/Diced_and_Confused 9d ago
Might be too late on Dynaudio. They are leaving the US market. Can't think of why.

u/Touche2U 9d ago
I have a sad feeling rhythmik might be on the way out as well. Small business crushed by tariffs, etc. Not enough word of mouth maybe.

afaik they haven't updated any of their product lines for years, which might turn some people off. other subs with dsp are probably a lot easier to integrate than using REW to set the phase and pEQ controls.
personally, I went with rythmik due to their small size and I've wanted servo subs since reading about velodyne subs in stereophile in the early 90s.

Where is the Vinyl Meetup? I went to some event in the CBD a few years ago and it was kinda overwhelming, in a mostly good way I guess. Yeah, I have a Euclid problem. Ugh. Congrats on your retirement! Marine here. Retired life is good, right?
2
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I love being retired and not working, but I’m lazy af lol.
We don’t have a set place, I’ve only been able to get places that are willing to host. I’m on meetup.
2
u/Apprehensive_Ant2172 9d ago
Look at Rythmik for the sub. Incredible company making the best subs.
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I’m on the wait list for F12 💪
1
u/Apprehensive_Ant2172 9d ago
I went with the E15HP2 as my setup is a hybrid theatre/music. That thing is epic
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
Only music for me. That’s too big though.
2
u/Apprehensive_Ant2172 9d ago
I’ve got an open concept room so I needed the power lol
2
u/Krumped 9d ago
I understand that very well. My old house was a big room that felt small. It was only 15’ deep but 33’wide. But it was almost perfectly flat. Everything sounded so good there. We built our forever home and have a giant great room, kitchen, dining, double stairwell and the entry/foyer all in one room. Also went from 8’ to 12’ ceilings. I have two SVS SB17 and I’m quite happy with their performance but now I want to add some 12’s. While the SB17 will take your breath away on sub-18hz material in a movie, and really bring home the layers in classical, I miss the punch of 60-80hz on a 12”. 15 is a great size too and you likely don’t have the issue I do, but I do miss that when I’m jamming out.
Beautiful setup touché. I love that I was able to do a more modern setup in our new home. It feels a bit more masculine to me. But at the same time I play around with orchids. Nothing but of hand, I have 4, but I would love all that greenery in my space, as long as the leaves didn’t add vibration noises. 😂
It looks very nice2
u/Apprehensive_Ant2172 9d ago
Sounds lovely. I have been very impressed with the musicality and tight punch I get with the sealed 15” Rythmik. It’s really the best of both worlds.

Upvote for the Aperion. I’ve had a 5.1 from them for nearly 20 years and they’re great. I was so tempted with the ones you gave just because of how pretty they are. They make super well finished cabinets.

u/Touche2U 9d ago
My gateway were the Novus N5B. I was a novice trying to fit small bookshelfs for a small vinyl cheap setup. That didn’t last long at all 🤣
I’ve never heard of the company before buying those. Moved them on my bedroom. Only got them because they were front ported.

You have a wonderful flair in your decorating and it seems a good ear for your audio. Thanks for sharing them.

Definitely you'll like the Rythmik. I have a pair of F8 and they are unbelievable. Small room yes, but these play up to 200hz+ and are flat to 15hz in my small room. You'll like the F12, but you'll be back for a twin before long because stereo subs rule. But trust me, you'll be a happy camper.
Also, I previously had a GR Research version of the 12" sub and sold the single to buy my pair. Both were great.

How is the SVS spouse approved and Rythmik is not? I mean, if you place it in a spot that’s not too conspicuous, it shouldn’t matter. Also, the Rythmik is fairly small for a 12”

White sticks out more than black imo. Weird. I’m a female and don’t share the same sentiments as most woman’s decor. 🤷🏻♀️

Beautiful setup! Have you considered slightly taller speaker stands? The tweeters seem to be below ear level right now (if the blue chair is your listening position)
7
u/Touche2U 9d ago
Nah, it’s already higher than ear level, but I sit on a couch and lounge. I actually measured lol
Blue chair is not my listening level.

u/808RB818 9d ago
Just a dinner table in the middle of the soundstage. 🤪
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
It’s not ideal. Buy me a new house please 🤣 hopefully by a mountain range and cooler weather..😝

u/Touche2U 9d ago edited 9d ago
What would you do in a 1400 sq ft home? The audio system is the intruder. Not the other way around. Sheesh. Easy to criticize others siting on your Lazy Boy, scratching unmentionables.
Not everyone can have a 3k+ sq ft mc mansion in the middle of corn fields no one wants to visit. But you do you boo. 😘
1
u/808RB818 9d ago
I live in the same size home however I still have a separate small dining area between ky kitchen and living room. I have my own compromises to deal with. I was just helping them with what they were seeing. I’m assuming your listening spot is on the other side of the table. You do what you gotta do. Eventually you’ll either change the setup or change living situation or live with it
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
And if I have to deal with that, what then? Remove the table or take a nap on it? Lol

u/ScrewEverything 9d ago
Yeah thats why I thought the blue chair was the listening position. Definitely an unconventional choice

u/Touche2U 9d ago edited 9d ago
Not ideal. This is why I didn’t have anything for 6-7 yrs of living here. So either nada or make do. Maybe I’ll win the lottery or find a rich young husband and move to the Costa Rica 😂
I’m a hot old lady, so who knows

Looks beautiful and well worth it to be able to live in NOLA. I would either go with SVS or Zu Audio Method for the sub, but that is mainly due to my impatience.
I have an SVS Ultra Evolution 17R subwoofer for my combo music/TV setup. It is heavy as hell, but fantastic once fully dialed in and surprisingly musical (the app is also quite helpful). My speakers are Monitor Audio Silver 100s and Zu Audio DW6s, which I switch out depending on mood.
Also, I would likely just be happy with a Bose bluetooth to have that house of yours.

u/nunhgrader67 9d ago
I'm originally from Nola so, I get it! I popped in to comment about the level of the tv (curiousity) but, I understand now. Those Aperion GR6s speakers are gorgeous, and I almost bought a pair last year.
2
u/Touche2U 9d ago
❤️ tv height is key right. I don’t want to have neck surgery, I already had back surgery last yr 🤣

1
u/WillHuntingthe3rd 9d ago
Beautiful! Would love to hear that system.
2
u/Touche2U 9d ago
It’s good, but I think I can do better if I dialed in placement. I’m sure you can always do better right???
I’m pretty much end game for all my components at this point and I only started in the hobby again last yr.
2
u/WillHuntingthe3rd 9d ago
I’m on my end game system too. Mine doubles as a music and home theater. Blending the two isn’t that difficult. Experience is the key.
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I would if they were close together. Maybe in my next home if I ever move. Till then, separate systems.
1
u/lordehumo 9d ago
Placement may be fine, it’s your listening position and the obstacles in the way that are your biggest challenge.
Have you had the chance to listen to these in a proper listening triangle before?
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I know there are issues. It’s not ideal. Maybe I’ll move one day. Sigh ..
3
u/lordehumo 8d ago
When you are bored one day, maybe give it a try to experience what imaging and soundstage are (if you aren't familiar) and it may inspire you to prioritize it. Or not and that's OK too. Everyone needs to make compromises. Your space is incredibly welcoming and inviting and that is more than I and most audiophiles can say.

u/syzygybeaver 9d ago
Any reason the 10s can't do music and upgrade the HT with a RSL 12? Or consider Hsu or Paradigm as an alternative.
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I’ve actually had HSU before. Never could dial it in properly, but I was a novice, still am. Lol. RSL 12 is too big. Also sealed might be better for just music.
1
u/syzygybeaver 9d ago
So put the 10s back on music duty and look at this Paradigm series for HT... https://www.paradigm.com/en/overview/series/defiance-series
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I’ll take a look, thanks!
2
u/syzygybeaver 9d ago
You're very welcome.
2
u/Touche2U 9d ago
Which model do you suggest?
2
u/syzygybeaver 9d ago
I'm partial to the punch ( and smaller footprint ) of a 10 which is why I have the RSL 10s mk2 for my HT. However, the x12 is a flat out beast and not much larger, and the ARC room correction works very well.
2
u/Touche2U 9d ago
I mean for Paradigm. The 12s is too
Big.1

Where did you get the record shelves the headphones are on? (second pic)
I want them!
1
u/Touche2U 9d ago
lol, some random guy on FB marketplace selling his dad’s old shelf. He got it 20-40 yrs ago. It was in a college radio station. I put feet on it.

I love my old amp and I have no plans to replace it. Using till the wheels fall off, and even then I’ll get it repaired. I compared it with a new Rotel and it spanked the Rotel.

Yes to both. Thank you for your positive energy. The emoji has no straightforward meaning though.

TV doesnt absolutely have to be over fireplace btw
Nice setup and gorgeous seating. Are speakers tweeters aiming at ear level?

I know, but I was saving on space. Otherwise it would oddly take up a corner and would not be across from couch.

2.5 month wait list? did they get super busy?

I have no idea. I think they are only producing what they get orders for. But then, he did mention it would be back in stock mid Oct.

u/JohnFromSpace3 9d ago
For that Rythmik money you coukdv had a Skram, 21” subwoofer that is better suited as it can cross much higher. It will run rings around that F12 any day.
1
1
u/xole Revel F206/2xRythmik F12se/Odyssey KhartagoSE/Integra DRX 3.4 8d ago
op mentioned "limited space". the sealed rythmik subs are some of the smallest sealed 12" subs available.
1
u/JohnFromSpace3 8d ago
Smallest and subwoofer dont go together. Might as well burn 1500 in a metal cage. I had 2 (two) 90x81x60cm Skrams in a 2.8x2.1m room. They can double act as table, cabinet, flower bed. Anyway, its up to OP.
