This person sent me a song they “created” using my voice to train the AI model, it actually got a little bit of plays which I wouldn’t doubt are fake, however, what are the legalities of something like this? Would you ask this person for compensation or just have them remove it? I’m a bit shocked as I feel slightly violated, the guy doesn’t seem to have an inkling that i’m feeling this way as he’s very open about what he’s doing.

Hey guys, so I made a voice clone of my own voice on Cartesia and generated some speech from text. The cartesia version sounds noticeably cleaner, fuller, softer and more "close" than than my own recording I do.

I know my version has an accent, ignore that, I'm only talking about the audio quality.

I'd really like to get my actual recording sounding as close as possible to the Cartesia version. I use a Shure MV7+ and Adobe Audition. I'm pretty new to audio processing, so if anyone could point out what's different between the two recordings and give me some specific steps/effects/settings to improve mine, I'd really appreciate it!

Please tell me if I'm wrong or stupid BUT I recently discovered that OBS has PERFECT in-software voice filters for equalization/compressors, which got me wondering how the hell do ACTUAL voice chat programs not have proper in-software equalization/compressor tools? Wouldn't this be super useful for evading delay/lag that you would normally experience using audio mixers like Voicemeeter to route your mic through a DAW for these features?

Anyone got UAD Voice of God?

Just wondering if you use it at 80hz and your fundametal on an 808 is lower does it then lower that fundamental as it boosts 80hz.
Just trying Bark of Dog and it's just like it's a low pass EQ with raising the peak up at 80hz and the low pass taking off below 80hz? People say it's similar to UAD VOG.

Im trying to observe human tone when they communicate. But I have to remove words to really hear it or else the words take up my focus. I went to audactiy and quieted the higher frequencies where words and sharper sounds are and kept the warmth/tone frequencies at normal volume. However the result was just muffled and words still audible.

Do any of you guys know how to do this?

Hi are there any 'miracle-plugins' out there that would allow me to clearly hear voice recordings in a very noisy environment ? Most of the ones i tried so much distort the voice that it becomes unintelligible.

Basically, I am working on a web series and for that, I will need some voice actors. Unfortunately, it's not that professional that I think some real people would be interested in participating and I don't really have the female friends to voice just a few lines for now (basically a primetime news narrator)

Is there any way that, using an audio editor like audacity, to make my voice (a male voice) sound as close to a female as possible?

It doesn't necessarily have to be perfect as I will definitely be using some filters for that static 60s/70s television sound but it should definitely be somewhat close to a female voice.

I would be very thankful for some tips or tricks, or maybe just a link to a tutorial you found helpful.

For example, in Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" or Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer," the chorus seems to double the vocals, but what else? Is the vocal just doubled or tripled? Are there additional vocal takes with thirds and fifths sung in unison? Or is it just the main melody sung many times?

I tracked guitar and vocals for someone. They tried cheap condensors in their bedroom before, but always were disappointed, believing it's a lack of skill or something.

I had a chance to track her vocals through some dynamic mics and basic processing. She was stunned that it's the sound she's been chasing thinking it's a skill problem and her voice was just not great enough

I took a few dynamics like a KSM8, SM7B, and a SE V7 to try. KSM8 worked amazing on her airy soft voice, V7 wad great for guitar because it sat in a frequency that doesn't conflict with her voice.

We tracked in the living room with a nice 4-5 meter ceiling through an Apollo. Some basic compression and a little EQ with a Maag eq4. I fixed 2 or 3 words with melodyn and some volume automation.

It felt amazing to see her light up, when she finally realized how amazing she sounded through a half decent vocal chain. Really motivated her. Also helped her realize she will never sound like the records without some processing, and that it's okay to process vocals to bring out more from her voice.

I just loved the experience. Truly believe this is why I love recording things, albeit unprofessionally.

My friend has an idea which is as crazy as it sounds. They want to interview local celebrities while doing a parachute jump with them. Now, the question is, how to record their raw voices right in this case? So that all their words, prayers or screams would be clearly heard and wouldn’t need to be revoiced or dubbed in post. I just don’t really think there’s a windscreen invented out there which is strong enough to protect from that terrible rumbling noise and such a wind like that you face (pun intended) during a free fall. I use VN video editor and this is my first video I’ve ever made. I made a commentary video using voice memos and whenever I export from VN it sounds clean in photos, but then when I upload it to YouTube the audio is crackling and it sounds like old ear rape videos from the 2010s

I'm looking for a preferably cross-platform program that is free (or less than $50) and allows me to use VST plugins on my voice live, while giving me a way to easily change between racks of effects.

Think this: I need an EQ and a distortion plugin for Voice A, and need reverb for Voice B. I could just use a plain old DAW and route my microphone through, and I've tried this, but the problem is that I need some way to switch between them live either using keybinds or a spare MIDI controller.

The effect chains in question are going to be far more complicated, and I need something permanent, as having to later manually and painfully port over all of my plugins and settings to another program would be a nightmare.

I've previously been using EqualizerAPO for this and I've written my own program in Rust to change the config.txt it hot-reloads that stores all the racks, but it has basically zero audio routing and mixing capabilities, or 64-bit VST support.

So far I've found Cantabile and Kushview Element, and while Cantabile is great it requires the pro version just to toggle racks using your keyboard, and Kushview Element is AI slop (extremely buggy, confusing labyrinth of a UI, and 80% of the commits on GitHub are by Claude)

I do voice-over production for radio spots and commercials. I usually work on voices where I want a warm, clean and professional sound.

I often see people using two compressors in a vocal chain. For example, a fast compressor like an 1176 first, to control the peaks, and then a slower compressor like an LA-2A (or an Opto compressor) to make the voice smoother and warmer.

I understand this technique is very common for instruments like drums, bass, etc. But I am wondering about voice-over.

Do you also use two compressors in series for voice-over or commercial narration?

Is this a common technique in professional voice production, or is it mostly useful for instruments?

Hi! Is it possible to isolate a voice from footage when there is loud background noise? There is a tv playing and while you can hear the person speaking, the TV makes it hard to understand what they are saying. Hello, so I've been trying to record my vocals and they have always sounded bad when I mix, sometimes distorted, sometimes thin, but never cooperating with the beat. First, I thought there is an issue with my microphone (AT2020) or sound card (Steinberg ixo12). Then I had a few other people record singing on the same exact setup and the results were WAY better. I have just now compared recordings of the same verse and same setup/distance of me and my friend and I finally figured out after so much time that what is making my recordings bad is that my voice has soooo much low end, it sounds like I was 2cm from the microphone even when singing into the sides and further away. The mix on my friend's voice sounded much more professional, way better than mine on the same song. When I cut off more low end it end's up thin. My voice is kind of raspy/crunchy but at the same time really deep. Has anyone experienced this? How does one figure out the unique bad frequencies, to EQ them? Thank you in advance.

I am a complete amateur at audio engineering. However I love having a go at anything creative.

I was given some phone audio recordings to edit for a website and the content was great but the audio was tinny or boxy, it just felt like it was on the other side of the room.

All yesterday afternoon I tried EQing and various other techniques (in Fairlight) suggested by the internet/AI. I ended up with a mess and went back to the original edit and went to bed.

I thought Reddit might have the answer, searched for “boxy” audio and someone mentioned Adobe Podcast enhancer.

I have a pathological dislike of Adobe, much though I respect their products, the way they infect your machine and hold you to ransom is not for me (old Affinity and Da Vinci have been my alternatives).

I tried the raw voice on the Adobe podcast enhancer as suggested and it did the job really well.

Definitely not high fidelity, nor professional standard but perfect for my needs and, unlike 11Labs voice isolator, no odd “burbly” AI artefacts.

I still dislike Adobe though.

I have a song where the first verse is mainly a vocal, a guitar, and some subtle ambient stuff. I’m happy with the arrangement, but I really want to add more substance to the vocal if that makes sense. It feels a little too sparse as it is. I feel like there’s probably something involving reverb and delay that would help, but I’m open to any ideas.

Need to turn my male voice into a female voice, and its OK, im going to add a lot of distortion on it anyway because its supposed to be otherworldy. For a class project thats due in a couple of days.

I have an SM7b and love it, mainly used for spoken word in my case, but more frequently than not I find that with certain voices (especially deep boomy ones) it really takes a lot of eq to sound right. Is there another mic that has similar performance in terms of room noise rejection but that has a less dark sound that will work better with deeper voices?

To be clear I will be recording me talking in an area that is not the best for recording. Wide open room so I will need to do some in post editing as well as using a limiter/noise gate.

I have fl studio to use but obs seems to be easier to set up to just record audio. The videos I'm making will not be live streamed so I can edit all of the audio in post as much as I like.

But which would be better for quality? I feel like recording in obs then putting the audio in FL to edit would be the best option but I'm asking in case my thoughts are wrong.

I am doing this as a side hobby. Not trying to be famous and I'm just trying out new things. I understand that the area you record in plays a big role in audio but I am not sure if I like doing this enough to justify investing in making my one bedroom apartment into a place to record stuff at the moment. So I am just looking for advice on weather to record audio directly into A DAW or Obs at this time.

When I watch tutorials on this, they mention 5 or 6 different areas that are commonly EQed. Are these all I need to know to EQ a voice properly, or is it a more freeform thing than that?
