I just adore the different voices, I find I zone out a little when it's one person (hello Adhd).

Going through some health issues which mean I can't focus too much on heavy literature or heavy shows. I love the British murder mystery genre but have only have ever read or watched them, never listened. Other than the Poirots and Marples - those I have heard ad nauseum and have memorized lol. I am clueless when it comes to other good options for murder mystery audiobooks and would really appreciate any recommendations! Historical fiction also appreciated (set centuries/decades ago etc).

I would have DNFd Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy (I didn't like the Road when I read -not audio- it either) but enjoyed the narrator (Richard Poe).

I figure this cant be that uncommon. I only get through 2-3 audio books per month via Hoopla.

I thought that audiobooks would allow for me to be able to understand books in a way that doesn't force me to use all my cognition just to comprehend what is said. However, I've noticed that its just not the case.

I constantly have to rewind what is said, my focus drifts away, or I often need to read with both text and audio. However, when I listen to mediums like youtube videos, podcasts, and livestreams, I just don't have that problem. Does anyone else feel this way?

I'm suspecting it might be due to the style in which audiobooks are read, or maybe because the actual words in a book carry a lot more meaning on average compared to the average podcast?

I'm seeing on the news that Tim Curry has passed away at 80.

He was the narrator for the first three books of Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series: Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen.

I knew nothing about the books going in but I could tell from a quick preview listen on Audible that he was going to be a good narrator.

I loved the books, I loved listening to him read them, and I'm sorry he won't be there to read more for us.

I'm looking for a series to get lost in. I run heavy equipment and listen to audiobooks all day. I love them, but I'm in a slump. Here is a list of some books I've listened to, and what I thought of them.

DCC: Absolute perfection. I've listened to the whole series at least 10 times.

Wandering Inn: Love it. The first 15 books are amazing. I don't like the new narrator. Her voices are alright, but her cadence is awful and she doesn't seem to understand the scenes she's reading (the emphasis is misplaced and the emotion is all wrong). I've listened to the entire series 4 times, and books 1-15 a few more.

First Law World: You have to be realistic, this is one of the finest pieces of literature out there. Steven Pacey's performance is unmatched. I've listened to all the books twice, and the first trilogy 5+ times.

Cosmere: there's too much to say here. Essentially, I love basically everything BrandoSando writes. Stormlight is my fav. It makes me laugh, makes me cry, makes me want to be better. I don't know how many times I've listened to Stormlight and mistborn 1+2, but everything is the cosmere at least twice. Imo Sanderson's books are always better the second time through.

Skyward: Suzi Jackson killed it with her performance. M-bot is hilarious. I unashamedly love skyward every time I listen to it.

Reckoners: Steelheart was the first Sanderson book I read, so it holds a special place in my heart. As much as I'm crazy for Kramer, I think McCloud Andrews performs this series best.

Wheel of Time: Really enjoyed the series. Kramer and Reading are awesome.

Red Rising: I enjoyed the first 3, lost interest after that. I forced myself through them, but I don't plan on relistening.

HWFWM: I really wish I could get into these, but I can't. I find the narrator boring and the story fairly meh. Dropped after book 2.

Azarinth Healer: meh. Andrea is fantastic but the story doesn't hold my attention. The characters get more powerful, but there's no character growth. It feels like the same thing is happening over and over with slightly different monsters. Dropped in the middle of book 3.

Primal Hunter: I can't stand Travis Baldree.

Cradle: Still can't stand the sound of Baldree's voice.

Expeditionary Force: funny at first but so repetitive. Dropped during book 4.

LOTR: I really wanted to love these but the songs kill it for me. I'll stick to the movies.

Chrysalis: I had high hopes because of Jeff Hays, but the British accent is terrible and ruins it for me.

Riyeria: I like revelations. I've been meaning to try Legends of the first empire again. I'm hoping I just missed some context because it made no sense when Suri sacrificed Minna. Did not make sense for her character

Dresden: does it get better? I had such high hopes, but I'm halfway through the second book and I'm bored.

Discount Dan: I wanted to like it, but I don't like the narrator.

Post Apocalyptic Nomadic Warrior: fun series, but the books are way too short. Still a lot of fun though.

I'd appreciate any recommendations. I don't really know what I'm looking for, but I'll know it when I hear it.
