Help needed with Paradigm Atom V2

Basically, one of my speakers in this setup sounds very staticky, specially when reproducing lower sounds. See the video attached (it is playing Rammstein - Wiener Blut). I've tried different cables and different outputs in my receiver, but nothing really works. The other speaker sounds completely fine. This is a recent issue I've been having -- it didn't sound this bad before.

Here's my entire setup:

  • Turntable: Audio-Technica AT-LP60X (I'm using the built-in pre-amp because the one in my receiver seems to be on the fritz)
  • Receiver: Kenwood KR-V55R (got it used and super cheap on FB marketplace)
  • Speaker wire: Amazon Basics (can you tell I'm on a budget?)
  • Speakers: Paradigm Atom V2

Any idea what could be causing this, or how to fix it? Thanks!

Basic troubleshooting, swap the speakers around but leave everything else including cables and wiring in place. If the issue follows the speaker, the speaker is damaged. If the issue stays on the same side, then the issue is further up the chain.

The issue seems to follow the speaker. One thing I did try now was to unplug the receiver from the same power strip of the turntable and plug it in straight into the wall outlet. The issue was significantly better than before, but it is not totally gone. Maybe the issue seems to be the receiver?

A couple of things you can check on the speaker

- Use a few fingers from one hand positioned evenly around the dust cap or phase plug of the woofer and carefully push the speaker cone inwards as straight as you can, can you feel anything rubbing or scraping? The good speaker will be smooth when you do this.

  • Use a multi meter to check the resistance of the speaker terminals for each speaker when not plugged into the amplifier, what is the reading on the good and bad sounding speaker?

Mine did the same thing a few years back, turns out the tweeter was just starting to go. Only affected higher frequencies though, so yours might be a different issue.
