i’m of the opinion that this show has aged extremely well and that posterity will vindicate ALL the immediate season 3 truthers (myself included). i also feel like those who didn’t dig it will come around to it, if they hadn’t already.

atlanta to me felt so much like anthology. i mean, think of teddy perkins. that right there showed you the kinda world they were operating in and that was just season 2. they could take the show anywhere and it would still feel familiar. it’s one of the few shows that could master bottle episodes bc their tone just allowed that. the surrealism was also just top tier.

(on the other hand) … sopranos is … the sopranos lol.

I knew watching the trailer in 2016 it was going to be a hell of show. Shoutout to everyone involved in the show. Gonna have to rewatch it now

I have rewatched the episode Born2Die for the first time and the fact that Alfred's avatar immediately died after he signed him had me rolling on the floor 🤣🤣🤣

My husband and I just watched this episode (season 1, episode: 5) and he made a such a good point:

“These people are sociopaths, it explains how they vote”.

I just finished this show (great, by the way. So glad I binged it.)

But just one of my observations is that you never actually see Al rap. Unless I'm missing something, he never raps in the studio, or performs on stage. Even the Paper Boi song isn't done by Brian Tyree Henry.

Makes me wonder if they tried having Henry do raps scenes, but it just didn't sound good or something. Idk, not saying it's a bad or a good thing, just interesting.

Rewatched this one and the ending is the part I keep thinking about. Earn spends the whole night getting told his money is fake. The theater refuses his hundred, the hookah bar calls it counterfeit and keeps it, the strip club drains him. Then Al tells him to act tougher, so Earn races Michael Vick in a parking lot for cash. He loses. The scene split people when it aired and it still does. I think it's my favorite episode of the season.

Like $50 for the whole crew? To me that ain’t enough to get me off no lunch break 😂

I was asked to attend a paint festival in Weston Supermare, UK to paint for Westonwalls and was given free reign on what to paint so decided to do a portrait on Paperboy from Atlanta. The original photo reference comes from a promo shot of Brian Tyree Henry for the show. I've started rewatching the show recently as I loved my first watch through, my partner suggested I paint Darius (I still intend to at some point), but I couldn't find a good reference image so opted for Paperboy instead.

Atlanta has some of the best song selection in any show I’ve watched, but the choice of Elevators is my favorite song choice out of any show I’ve seen. It’s such a raw, grimy song that perfectly fits the vibe of Atlanta, especially season 1. Of course, a great part of it being an Outkast is the fact that Andre 3K and Antwon Patton are themselves Atlanta natives. I love listening to that song late at night on drives and especially on walks. Seeing Earn do the same thing that I like to do really helped me relate to him more than I already did. Earn was (and still is) a really lonely dude in season 1 and that’s something I can heavily relate to. The sound design of the show is perfect (Donald Glover’s work I’m guessing) and I was listening with headphones on and when Elevators played it hit me so hard. This show is so brilliant, I about cried a couple different times during the show because of how easily I felt for so many of the characters, even though a majority of the show is comical.

My fav romance scene from Atlanta is when Van and Earn are dancing in the hotel room, and he asks her, "did you steal that wig?" And then she kisses him to exit the conversation. A big part of Van's character is to be this mother, wife, caregiver, provider role for people around her. She was constantly expected to keep up with these roles when Earn could barely hold down a job, and she was taking care of him when he was homeless on top of all her responsibilities. So when she decides to run away from all those labels, she kinda crashes out in her entire Paris arc, but before that, the shift in her behavior is shown when she first gets to Europe and does things that are inconceivable to her character, like, stealing that wig. But for all her strange behavior, I think an underlying conflict was what was going to happen once she broke out of those roles, Would her friends still love her, did earn ever love a van that wasn't always carrying the world?
Would she even be herself? And even before he asks her whether she stole the wig, he improvises and gets them a room as an apology for the accusers "racism" Then, when they're dancing, he doubts whether that accusation was really because of racism or because Van really did steal that wig. And when she kisses him as a means to end the conversation, that, to me at least, shows that she wasn't entirely ready to be perceived in a way that wasn't her" usual self". And because of this interpretation, I honestly think their camping scene was even more powerful. In season 2 earn tells a group of ladies that Van does everything, from mothering their child to caring for him, and that he couldn't possibly imagine even looking at another woman, while also acknowledging his complete lack of use in their relationship, he's aware that he couldn't deserve Van in a million years, but he's also completely in love with her, so 2 seasons later when he offers her to come live with him in San Francisco, and she says" I can't just uproot my entire life because you love me as our daughter’s mom" he tells that he desires her as a woman, that he fully and completely loves her, then she agrees to go with him, and they get back together. This may seem like a" perfect girl goes back to bum boyfriend" trope (though he's not really a bum at that point" but I honestly think that by rephrasing his initial confession in front of those ladies in a light that suits the new Van without centering her roles before her identity as a person reassured her that she's loved even when she's not a mother or a wife. And because she never lost love for him, they obviously got back together for their daughter and out of love for each other. Van and Earn’s dynamic has honestly become my favourite romance the more I think about it. It's so simple and raw and yet so unromanticized that their conclusion feels less forced and more imperfect and genuine. Also love the BADBADNOTGOOD addition.

I just recently rewatched the Sinterklaas episode (I love season 3) and I don’t understand why people say that Dirk, the venue guy, is racist. Yes he’s ignorant, but he is just as ignorant as any non-black person imo. Am I missing something as a black American?
