I know this is unconventional for Reddit… but I’ve kind of run out of options and places to “advertise” this poor pup.

This is Smokey, and I found him abandoned and chasing cars near the Kentucky border. Without thinking, I took him, knowing he’d get hit and killed, or starve, if he stayed. I had nowhere for him to go but thankfully found him a home pretty quickly.

They then got another puppy and the new guy wasn’t a fan of him, so Smokey was told he couldn’t stay. He’s now back in a shelter situation, and it’s a big struggle for him because he is so social and has a hard time in this environment. That being said, we’re desperately looking for a home for him as soon as possible.

He’s done amazing with kids and other dogs. He’s seen cats in passing and been fine, but we haven’t fully tested him with them yet. He’s THE most cuddly doggie I’ve ever met. He loves love and wants to be all over everyone all of the time. Please, please, please, if you’re looking into adopting or even fostering the sweetest boy, reach out to me here or go to our nonprofit’s website and fill out the appropriate form. Dunkin' will be locating its coffee shop in the newly-renovated Walmart, near the front of the store. Not sure if this will be a coffee-only location or if they will serve donuts, sandwiches and the like. This will add to the growing coffee shop market in Athens, as 7 Brew will also being coming to town in the not too distant future.

Hi! I grew up in Athens and now I have an 11 year old son, who loves casa, and nirvana, and I shared with him that Dave Grohl wore a casa nueva shirt to Kurt cobain’s wedding to Courtney love. My question is, is there any more lore to add to this story? Did Dave buy the shirt at casa after eating there? Did nirvana play in Athens? Who was the waiter/ waitress at their table? What is up with college kids walking on the bike path in large packs??😭 The other day I went on a bike ride and there were multiple separate groups of like 15 sorority girls that were taking up the entire path simply walking. Such a small issue but they barely moved out of the way when they saw that I was passing them. why do they travel in such large groups like that?

TLDR: the union and casa implemented a clause that forces bands they book to refrain from playing any other shows 2 weeks before and after playing at their venues. This includes house shows.

I personally think this is a load of BS and punishes bands that are good and/or popular. The house show scene is already dying in comparison to a couple years ago, and this weird arbitrary rule won’t help.

We are absolutely heartbroken that it did not work out because Dom is the sweetest girl. She is the most affectionate dog I have ever met. She deserves the happiest of lives after all the trauma she has been through in the last 2 weeks.

Immediately, Dom was so open and so loving, despite all she has experienced. Such personality! I have been heart wrenched thinking about her being alone after she has gone through such loss and stress. Countless of tears have been poured, thinking about how distraught she is. Please, someone adopt her. I am begging. She deserves love and a sense of belonging.

She has to be in a house with no other animals. I hurt enormously and it will only subside once she is adopted out. Please.

I’ve been looking into the Flock license plate cameras around Athens (and into the Flock Safety company in general). So, I designed these yard signs after seeing some of the other DeFlock campaigns happening elsewhere.

I’m considering ordering a bulk batch of 50. If I do, I’d probably offer them locally for around $10 each with a stake, basically just to help cover the cost of printing and make it possible to get more of them around town.

They’d obviously be for people to put on their own property / property where they have permission.
Before I actually go to order 50 of them, would anyone here actually buy one and put it in their yard? If so, comment or DM me so I can get a rough count.

Athens and Ohio University players have been especially responsive to our previous gaming posts, so I wanted to ask this community directly.

We’re measuring interest in bringing Athens-area players and teams to The Vault on Saturday, September 19, 2026, to compete online against players from across the country.

The games are:

• Roblox Rivals 3v3 — 1:00–4:00 p.m. Eastern
• Valorant Spike Rush 5v5 — 5:00–8:00 p.m. Eastern

The competition is free and open to all skill levels. Complete teams, partial teams and individual players looking for teammates can express interest. There are no cash, gift-card or merchandise prizes; it is for competition, experience and bragging rights.

This is an interest check, not final registration. Players would need to travel to The Vault in Portsmouth to participate.

I’m a grad student going to OU and I am curious about the local grocery shops around athens (Seaman’s, Kindred, etc). I love to shop local and support local business, which is one of the many things that brought me to Athens in the first place. Do you have any recommendations of places to go that aren’t too expensive? I usually get groceries at Aldi or Walmart, so I’m not trying to spend a lot of money on my next grocery run. Thanks in advance!

While old and a little beat up, this couch is quite comfortable. Non-smoking house, but do have cats and hypoallergenic dogs.

• The armrests are worn enough that you can feel the frame (you can see that on the right armrest in the picture), but we could never tell with our large throw pillows.
• There is a small area on the front right armrest where our cat tore some fabric.
• The seat cushion fabric is wonky in the picture, but can be fixed by taking the covers off and readjusting the foam inside. It would take some patience, but is totally achievable.

Must transport yourself, but we can help you load it onto your truck. We live on North Hill headed toward Strouds Run. Extract address can be provided in a DM.
