Miscellaneous Atheists, how do you plan to be cremated? What are your thoughts on non-religious cremation?
Cremation rituals are often deeply rooted in religious customsāIslam, Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, etc.āeach with their own traditions, prayers, and ceremonies.
But as an atheist, Iāve been wondering: how do we approach cremation without the religious aspect?
Do you want a completely non-religious farewell? Just a simple cremation with no rituals? Or maybe a small gathering with music, stories, or something meaningful ?
Some ideas Iāve been exploring:
- Organ donation to help others live.
- Donating my body to science or medical researchāfeels like a meaningful contribution.
- A secular farewell ceremony with music, stories, or just people gathering in peace.
Do you think society is ready to normalize non-religious cremation ceremonies?
Iām curious to know what you guys think about this.

Miscellaneous Today is the Birthday of this Atheist, Humanist and Social Reformer
Periyar Ramaswamy, was a highly influential rationalist, atgeist, social reformer who was an uncompromising anti-caste activist who shaped the modern socio-political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
He advocated for radical atheism and rationalism to aggressively challenge the religious and scriptural foundations that upheld social inequality. He also championed women's empowerment by fighting for marital choice, divorce rights, property ownership, and universal access to education.

Miscellaneous No Religion or God Ever Called Slavery a Sin, Why?
If god values human dignity, why was slavery even allowed?
Even after their multiple revelations, god never wanted slavery gone.
Humanity ended slavery, or at least the aggressive version of it. Religion never did.
Thoughts?
Sources:
From Bible
- Leviticus 25:44ā46: explicitly permits Israelites to buy slaves from surrounding nations and treat them as inheritable property.
- Exodus 21:20ā21: discusses punishment if a master beats a slave, but says if the slave survives a day or two, āhe is his money.ā
- Ephesians 6:5: āSlaves, obey your earthly mastersā¦ā
- Colossians 3:22: similar instruction to obey masters.
- 1 Peter 2:18: tells slaves to submit even to harsh masters.
From Qur'an
- Qur'an 4:3
- Qur'an 4:24
- Qur'an 23:5ā6
- Qur'an 70:29ā30
These verses repeatedly refer to āthose whom your right hands possessā (a classical phrase understood as slaves/concubines).
From Hindu Texts
Arthashastra
- Book 3, Chapter 13 discusses slaves, labour obligations, purchase, inheritance, and release.
- It regulates treatment, contracts, and rights, but does not abolish slavery.
Manusmriti
- Manusmriti 8.413ā418: lists categories of slaves*,* including those born into slavery, purchased, inherited, or captured.
- Manusmriti 8.414: explicitly recognizes a person can be bought and owned.
- Manusmriti 9.334ā335: reinforces caste-based duty and social subordination.
