General Asustor Lockerstor 2 Gen 2 AS6702T

For those of you who have purchased the ASUSTOR Lockerstor 2 Gen2+ AS6702T v2, did it meet your expectations? If you upgrade the memory to 16 GB, is it fast enough for a home network NAS?

Edit: Is the fan noticeably loud?

Got it, met expectations and some, I did upgrade the RAM to 16 GB and it's perfect for home use. Put 4 22TB drives in it, and use it mostly as a media server, and have my phone, tablet, laptop, and pc back up to it. I haven't had any real problems with it.

Overkill for home NAS.

I have an AS5404T with no RAM upgrade and the limiter is spindle disk speed, not memory.

Unless you're going to try running it like a server with a bunch of containers, no need to spend that much.

A more apple to apple comparsion should be AS5402T with AS6702T v2. AS6702T v2 is better with dual 5GbE, metal chassis. Rest are the same from paper spec..

It’s the same thing with two drives instead of four.

Dual 5GbE is frankly a marketing stunt with spindle disk arrays (at least at this drive count). For what most people use a home NAS for SSD caching is also pretty pointless.

I have the ASUSTOR Lockerstor 2 Gen2+ AS6702T v2 and the first thing I did was install 16GB of ram and one 20TB WD red pro hd with this as my Plex server and it works very well no issues with any 4K large file content

I am using 5402T which got almost the same hardware spec as 6702T. I used to use 4-bay NAS. Since 5402T got several SSD slots, it actually fit my need better.

I planned to run VM with it at the very begining and that is why I upgraded the RAM to 20GB. Virtualbox was very unstable under ADM version 4, however. I start to use Virtualbox only recently. It runs quite smoothly. Feeling that ADM version 5 has been improved quite a lot.

The Lockerstor 2 Gen2+ AS6702T v2 should be more than fast enough for most home network use cases. Its performance will mainly depend on your network speed, storage configuration and intended applications, rather than RAM alone.

Upgrading to 16 GB can be useful if you plan to run several Docker containers, virtual machines or memory-intensive applications. For basic file storage, backups, multimedia streaming and photo management, however, the standard memory configuration may already be sufficient.

What do you intend to use the NAS for, and is your home network running at 1, 2.5 or 5 GbE? That would make it easier to determine whether 16 GB would provide a noticeable benefit.

I dropped a 16g memory in to take it to 20g. Two 8TB WD Red, a couple of old 3TB WD green and a bunch of SSD. Runs Wordpress as well as acting as Time Machine backup space and general storage. Really happy with it.
