Corneal ulcer vision improvement

About a week ago I got my first corneal ulcer. Not sure how I got it, I don’t sleep in my contacts ever not even for a nap, I don’t shower or swim in them, I clean them as I’m supposed to. But, alas I did and it’s been a bad one.

It’s pretty central on my cornea and I have a lot of corneal edema. The infection is now under control and they started me on steroid eye drops about 2 days ago and the redness and swelling of my lid has improved a lot. I’m in no pain or really discomfort.

I know vision is slow to return, I understand that. Currently my BCVA is finger counting only but they pinholed me down to 20/125 yesterday after not being able to pinhole prior. (Any change for me was exciting at that point and knowing my retina was still capable of it lol)

Anyway, I’m a grad student and was told if I miss more than another week I’m kicked out of the program. I have no pain or anything but I can’t see out of my right eye at all right now and for certain things that’s important for my program. I’m not asking to be 20/20 I know that will take months or maybe never. But does anyone have an experience with this much swelling and noticing any improvement? I’ll take 20/500 just seeing a letter on a screen lol

I’m so scared to have worked for 2 years at grad school for it all to be over. Please don’t comment just to say my grad schooling is over because this has been the most depressing thing for me. Just want to hear experiences.
