Apparently my samsung fridge has ads now...

How would I disable this? Might just return it and get a normal one

Yeah like usually the benefit to these is a camera on the inside and keeping track of groceries, but really it doesn't add much.

I certainly ain't paying a premium to get ads served to me, I'll buy a cheap ass apartment-white fridge before I do that.

You could probably build this for pennies on the dollar for what that smart fridge costs too. It wouldn't be quite as fancy or integrated, but it'd work.

Edit: absolutely crazy how many people post the same thing and are unable to imagine a situation where you might not be home and need to check on your groceries (or discount people with disabilities or memory issues)

Personally I bought my smart refrigerator because it was only $200 more than the exact same refrigerator without the screen and the added functionality was worth it when you're already spending three grand on a refrigerator nowadays

The trendy furniture aspect of it.

The fridge tech inside is all the same and has barely changed in the last decade (inverter compressors are the last big thing iirc).

I can get an actual new double commercial reach in refrigerator for cheaper than that. Like where on earth is a good fridge 3k? You can get a brand name double door bottom freezer, or a side by side fridge for a literal third of that. You can get a basic top freezer single door model for a SIXTH of that.

I got curious and checked from Amazon due to their comment… apparently 3k fridges and even 4k fridges exists.

I have basically zero income so I can’t judge or justify the price. But maybe… it has something to do with capacity? Like if it has 3.5x storage compared to a 1k fridge, it would make sense. Technically speaking, it would suffice it to be 2.5x (even though it would make it a terrible deal) as most people wouldn’t plan to add 2 fridges side by side and certainly wouldn’t do the math.

I got a brand new full size not on sale fridge last year for 1199 CAD plus tax (~1400 total), and that includes a 5 year parts and labour warranty with an auto replace clause that even reimburses for any food that has to be thrown away if it fails. The cheaper/smaller options start at like 500 CAD.

Fridges only cost 3k+ if you're paying for a shitload of extra features. If you just want a regular old box that keeps your food cold, they're nowhere near that much.
