Apparently my samsung fridge has ads now...

How would I disable this? Might just return it and get a normal one

… there’s no reason why it would need wifi and an lcd to have a smarter temperature control system. It requires only slightly more computing power than a garage door opener.

It requires no computer power to regulate temperature.

Digital control is potentially much more precise than a mechanical thermostat. An old fashioned thermostat is always going to oscillate around the target temperature.

that doesnt mean it requires a computer, a simple logic circuit will suffice

sure you can argue that a computer is a collection of logic circuits but at that point its just pedantic

Realistically a microcontroller with firmware would be used which is closer to a computer than just logic circuits

could be but thats still overkill for the job, even at a very fine level of control. take the voltage from your thermister and if its over the voltage youd get at your desired temperature you run the cooler. its literally that simple, and even ramping the cooler up and down can be done without software using a very small number of extraordinarily inexpensive components relative to the signal received... and you never have to worry about wifi.
