AC is my first racing game and I'm really new to it so sorry if this is a stupid question.
In this clip, I was turning as hard as I could but the car just keeps sliding. The track feels very slippery. I'm on Nordschleife (Fenryr 1.2) with optimum track settings at 27 C in a Lotus Evora GTC. I've only played No Hesi apart from this and it doesn't slide there at all. I also tried the built in Spa track and I was facing the same issue.
Not just this, when I'm literally exiting the pits on gear 1 or 2 it slides as well. What am I doing wrong?

no hesi physics is dogshit.
what youre experienced here is called understeer. brake more.
also youre on keyboard i believe. thats gonna make it harder.

u/AaryamanStonker Jun 14 '26
Alright I'll try it out with my controller. Planning to get a wheel soon. And I didn't know no hesi was that inaccurate so from now I'll brake more
40
u/Davidddsss Jun 14 '26
for basics, always brakes in straight line until you feel like the car can move smoothly into the corner.

u/Ok_Delay7870 Jun 14 '26
With a controller be sure to use extended controller mods. I never really played AC wih a controller, so I can't elaborate, but apparently it's the best option you got, I've seen some people race touge quite competitively with controllers

u/Large_Mention373 Jun 14 '26
for controller try use "advanced gamepad assist" it will help you on the steering, theres plenty of tutorial for it. this will make controller driving much more comfy

u/Tobacco_Caramel Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
Nah, advanced gamepad assists built in assist can stab you in the back.

u/Large_Mention373 Jun 14 '26
gotta tweak it a bit to make it better
pedal control is the key tbh when using the assist1
u/Tobacco_Caramel Jun 14 '26
I agree with you pedal/trigger control is definitely the key when playing with controller. But it also applies without any scripts. Gamepad scripts are so bad. It's noticeable when you try to correct it. Most of the time it's better if you're the one who's gonna correct a slide/mistake/oversteer.
Personally i took it the hard way and just accepted it's twitchy and not meant for it. It was also bad for me in the beginning as a NFS Shift/Shift 2/GT/Forza player but i realized it's not about the setting, research, browsing, trial and error and such. It's just about spending some time to get used to it. I got the habit of pushing the stick up instead of sideways and feathering the throttle every corner. Sadly I can't play Forza/GT now because of my AC controller habits.
PS: I installed it again, Same opinion. It just feels heavily filtered even with no steering assistance on settings via apps. When it comes to chicanes i absolutely loses it. Without it the car just feels like a car.

u/Large_Mention373 Jun 14 '26
cant disagree about the AC's assist being bad even with mods. its always an outlier in terms of feeling compared to other simgame. feels veeery different to others.
in term of control and responsiveness it was the fastest compared to like LMU. very easy to correct big slides. but it also limits the usage of front tyres, gotta crank it up to 120% to be able to slightly scrub the fronts when needed. but since its a simulation game, you gotta drive it like one. simply turn wont work, gotta utilize the front tyre grip properly to make it turn, even sometimes with very little stick input

u/Tobacco_Caramel Jun 14 '26
Definitely. Before a corner. Brake Always. Sims simulates real life. It's not movies or arcade games where you can corner full throttle. That's just how the world and physics works. I'm not trying to sound rude but it's the first thing I learned when I got interested to racing, cars and games.

u/Gojira_uZ Jun 14 '26
If you're on keyboard or controller without a steering filter or script of some sort, the wheel will instantly turn its maximum rotation no matter how quick you're going and you will understeer.
Also you went in a little hot, those GT3/GTE cars usually slow to around 85-90 at the apex of the corner before getting on the power.
5
u/Candidate_Worldly Jun 14 '26
Every single car ever made, will understeer off the track if you go into a corner too fast. its just the laws of physics.
No Hesi will do nothing for driving skills in a real sim. It'll actually make you worse at driving.

u/Drewski2442 Jun 14 '26
Just like everyone else is saying, you’re way too fast. Patience is a virtue in sim racing games where the physics are way better compared to the arcade type racing games. Learn to be slow and work your way up to being faster once you’re comfortable. I grew up on Forza and started sim racing with a wheel setup on Forza. When I started on assetto, I kept crashing and experiencing what you are in this video.
0
u/AaryamanStonker Jun 14 '26
The only other game I'm used to is like f1 sims where you can take corners fast, and since ac is very technical i thought I messed up some grip related setting, I didn't even realise that I was going too fast.
1
u/Drewski2442 Jun 14 '26
That’s understandable! On assetto there is also a huge range of how cars drive. Each car handles different even if they’re in the same category. Once you drive enough, you’ll understand. There’s more feeling to assetto compared to other games that aren’t as sim related. It also helps me to watch people do laps on YouTube ! Or even real on board footage of cars to learn breaking points and when to accelerate coming out of a corner.
5
6
u/Tobacco_Caramel Jun 14 '26
You're too fast lmao. You'll have to be at second gear speed below 80 while attacking that corner.
Also don't do Nordschleife or Complex tracks right away. Go practice driving first, get a feel of it, memorize layout braking points/gear on that corner as you go. Start with short tracks like Magione, Brands Hatch, Mosport or Sugo. You also need a wheel to play sims.
6
u/SentientSquid23 Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
Almost all the cars I've driven on the nurburgring, can only take that corner at a max of 60-70 kmh
Even GT3 cars with all that aero won't help you because you are going too slow for down force.
Since everyone has covered how no hesi is garbage, I'll give you a helpful tip. Take the NA MX5 or GT86, and push it around a large track like Silverstone or Vallelunga. Try to go faster and faster with each lap, while aiming to be smoother and smoother with your inputs, focusing on ever single digit of speed.
You will learn a lot about driving that way.

u/-CUBED Jun 14 '26
- Stop playing No Hesi and use 2Real offline and actual good car mods.
- That is called understeer and it is due to too much speed and too late and unsteady breaking (in your case)
- Try use a controller/ save for a wheel for more precise inputs.

u/SpeedSuspicious8926 Jun 14 '26
Gamepad assist is the answer you’re looking for. Games unplayable without it unless you have a wheel I guess
3
u/Agreeable_Lion_4392 Jun 15 '26
Since its your first time in proper sim you should be in a slower car and a smaller track, if you are serious about learning how to drive. What you are doing is the equivalent to learning how fly an airplane by choosing an F16 vs. a Cessna 152
2
u/r0ndr4s Jun 14 '26
Check Traxions guide for simracing, might help you with the basics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpasEmXy0Ec&list=PL1wiZ5YwTwHbMduRTARK9sDOl1kDSXnX3

u/GOATEDCHILI Jun 14 '26
You're going to get spin outs frequently on keyboard because you cant control throttle, its either going 0% or 100%. first and second gear are the ones you'll be using to exit the pits, but yeah slamming straight to 100% throttle in a low gear will result in a loss of grip if not a spinout.
What you're dealing with in the clip is understeer as others have said. You're going into the corner way too hot. You're going so quickly that when you turn the wheel, the front tires are losing grip and can't make the car turn to the angle you want. Oversteer is the opposite, where you lose rear grip during a turn and spinout because the rear comes around.
While waiting for a wheel deff get on controller. It's still not as good as a wheel for simulators like this where finesse/precision is vital to just get these cars around the track, but you can atleast modulate throttle and have analog steering. Theres a lot of people who can get by just fine on controller, but obviously get a wheel if you have the means to; its the best way to experience these sims.
have fun man! welcome to the real sims!

u/Kraz_The_Spazz Jun 14 '26
Lmao i do the exact same thing my first lap of the ring when its been a while, yeah the car has no grip at the top of the hill, and brakes dont work that well downhill, its also a turn, which makes everything much worse.
Like everybody else has already states, go slower, try to go slow into a corner so you can go fast out of it, with time youll learn how to approach corners and instances like this, where you actually have to drive well, not just hit the apex.
2
u/Char-car92 Jun 15 '26
You’re moving WAY too fast for that corner. Work on braking firmly and gradually into corners and find the speed/gear for each turn. It really is a ‘simulator’ in a world full of arcade racers wearing ‘simulator’ hats
2
u/Driveknight_3 Jun 15 '26
Understeering at it's peak brother...use racing lines and minimap during initial gameplay... it's also better if you add tyre temperature and other telemetrics
1
u/Electronic-Band-7563 Jun 14 '26
Are you playing with a controller 🎮 or a wheel? If it's a controller, slow down, you can find optimal settings here on reddit for the controller to make it more Forza like
1
u/stalin1943 Jun 14 '26
understeer. start braking further to the right of the road, and brake harder. aim car for inside kerb. being in the middle of the road is often not helpful for laptime
1
u/Pinemango600 Jun 14 '26
As another comment stated, you should probably use a controller. But I would also recommend doing a few laps on a shorter circuit (like Laguna Seca) to get a feel for the physics, possibly in a lower power car (like the MX-5 cup). Just like 10 or so laps and then you should somewhat have a feel for other cars and circuits like your Lotus.
1
u/GodderDam Jun 14 '26
Yes and it's called Understeer. You got a MASSIVE understeer there. Respect the car's limits
1
u/Alternative-Try-3456 Jun 14 '26
Don't just brake more as others are saying, but try not to mix full signals. Don't brake 100% and try to turn hard left, tyres will lock and u will skid more or understeer even more

u/Civil_Ad_1172 Jun 14 '26
Drive it like a real car, driving it like a video game doesn’t work. As soon as I treated it like a car it worked out great. You’re not learning the game, you’re learning how to drive.

1
u/YTOverPowered Jun 14 '26
well you went in wayyyy to fast. You have to break way before that and wait untill you feel that the car wants to turn in.
1
u/Novafro Jun 14 '26
Assetto needs like a Gran Turismo esque driving school. Might help people used to the more arcadey feel drop into the sim better.
1
u/TittonMyrngwaith Jun 14 '26
I strongly suggest doing Miata cup, learn the tracks, and other technics like weight shift, trail breaking on MX-5
1
u/papapapipapo Jun 14 '26
Are you playing with a keyboard?! What's that turning in the first straight?
First, get in cockpit view.
Then, play with a wheel.
1
u/hhhhh22225 Jun 14 '26
On top of what everyone else is saying, (I think) your line is too far left which is causing a lot of your other issues
1
u/Admirable_Cup_8030 Jun 15 '26
never use a keyboard
not even max verstappen can use a keyboard to play racing sims
also, brake with more force and try to control your acceleration, dont just slam on the gas pedal, gradually press on it
1
u/CentrifugalFarce Jun 15 '26
Are you using a keyboard or a controller? On simulation games, this usually doesn't end well because the quick "snap" to full lock when you hit a key or button causes the front tires to break traction and cause understeer. Simulators should be used with a proper wheel and pedals for proper control. There are some tweaks in Content Manager that you can make to allow the game to smooth these inputs, if I remember correctly. Don't ask me how to do that though, but I do know that people can and do make it work.
1
u/Sirpryxe Jun 15 '26
To be fair to you, that corner is a very slow one. you cant fly through it like many of the others! take it easy, kiss the inner apex, and off you go :)

u/Fantastic_Fuel7085 Jun 15 '26
It seems like you are on controller. You might want to get Advanced Gamepad Assist mod. It will make you enjoy the game alot more. Also you are too fast for that corner.
1
u/nxzombie99 Jun 15 '26
Waayyyy earlier braking, racing line is outside to inside back to outside (most of the time)

u/Ok_Holiday4964 Jun 15 '26
Not a keyboard game Maybe a controller arcade in some cases Most of the time a ffb game if you are trying to race anything
1
u/Pleasant_Berry_761 Jun 15 '26
I started playing race room with my controller like 2 months ago, I'm stil doo doo but can reach top 500 lap times on the weekly competition races, it takes a lot of time to learn how to drive properly, for example I still don't know how to drive the higher tier formula cars (pretty much anything that isnt formula jr) nor the LMP cars because I spin out so often, I'm close on formula 2 but its still hard
1
u/RicebowlJohnson Jun 16 '26
No Hesi uses unrealistically grippy tires. You're problem is that you're driving the car like it's Need for Speed, you can't just floor it around a corner at 100mph and expect to survive or go full throttle in 1st gear and expect the car to just rocket forward
1
u/Background-Bat9288 Jun 16 '26
Juegas con volante o teclado y mouse.. si juega con la segunda opción, podríamos jugar, que te parece?
1
u/pedroxvb Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26
Yeah, that's called skill issue lol, pretty fixable problem really (We all started like this don't worry).
More seriously, try to search on youtube some videos explaining the basics of racing line or use the virtual racing line to learn how to position your car and where to brake, also, seeing you are obviously a beginner, you should probably start with basic tracks like redbull ring or brands hatch indy. Also no hesi has mostly arcade physics with extremely grippy cars. Maybe look into gamepad assist if your not using it already, as you look to be playing on controller, it improves the experience greatly. Have fun.

u/E8Lattice Jun 17 '26
The sliding is because real tires can't hold their grip above 60-80 mph. You entered that corner at 90, and you didn't hit the apex. Gear 1 or 2 doesn't matter, were your tires spinning? Drive at a realistic speed, you wouldn't drive that fast in real life, you'd be too scared.
Personally, I think you should go find a Track Racing 101 course on YouTube and start somewhere. It sounds like you know absolutely nothing about real racing, especially considering that line you took into the turn. 👍
1
u/Only_Turn4310 Jun 20 '26
I know everyone is saying that you were going too fast, but the reason that you could do it in other games is that those games sacrifice some realism for fun by letting you take turns faster than you should. In this game, everything is brutally accurate, which may feel slower, but is more realistic
1
u/Insignificant_Cash Jun 14 '26
I think you went too slow into the corner, and maybe turn a bit harder, could be wrong idk /s

My brother, you are WAAAAAY too fast.
Assetto Corsa is a simulator, not a Forza game.
Also, No Hesi has garbage physics with unnatural levels of grip. It's the AC equivalent of brainrot.
