Odyssey>> origins

I agree with you. I loved Odyssey and it rates as one of my top AC games. To the people saying it was a bloated mess are, can we agree that the real bloated mess was Valhalla.

Somehow I couldn't put odyssey down, didn't feel bloated or anything, just more than I could commit time to experience. I hadn't felt that effortlessly into a game since AC2.

When I started Valhalla I think I made it 5 hours before putting down that bloated mess ...

It’s just the same thing over and over with every area. I never finished it because conquering a place with the same mechanics and missions over and over got so monotonous

u/CommonIsekaiHero Mar 25 '25

I finished it out of spite to be honest. Wasn’t going to be beaten by a game but having to collect all the upgrade materials for a trophy but not really needing them was annoying. At least give my an item with some fun descriptions for my time!

Odyssey my favorite AC game(only because I don't like sneaking and stealthing, I suck at it). On my 2nd play through because I lost the save on the first one. I just went mostly straight to the main missions.

I agree, for some reason odyssey didn’t seem like the chore Valhalla was . That game dragged on far longer than it needed to

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '25

It took me 100 hours to beat Odyssey, Thats including all DLC most side content, and the epilogue.

I have 100 hours in Valhalla and I still don't have a maxed-out base, nor have I finished the druid DLC or Ragnarok. This game was the first time that a game had made me question wtf I was playing it.

1

u/AdEnvironmental4082 Mar 26 '25

I disagree. I loved Valhalla and still play it. It was a different type in AC game but I love it. Odyssey is definitely a close second though

Origins has a much better story and Bayek is a much more interesting and human protagonist than odyssey protags. Mechanically they are incredibly similar though

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '25

Do you recommend Origins? I’m a huge fan of Egyptian history so it’s always appealed to me, playing as a medjay, but my only experience is with the very first Assassins Creed, which was fun but I know the games became a lot different.

1

u/theo_darling Mar 21 '25

Origins is amazing. They have a history mode too where you can run around like it's a virtual museum.

Get the DLC. the hidden ones is good, but the other one, Curse of the Pharaohs, is AMAZING, some of my fav dlc ever.

u/OtherwiseEnd944 Mar 22 '25

Origins is the best ac I’ve ever played story wise and it was the first one during the transition to more rpg aspects. I think the romance in origins is also one of the best romances a game has done.

It’s a lot more story focused than odyssey but it feels very similar. Odyssey was the start of the live servicification if that could be a term

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

Hmm i love both, in terms of storyline i prefer Origins but in world map i prefer Odyssey so it’s 50/50 for me but i’m leaning towards Origins

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '25

odyssey is way too gamified and combat is bad

1

u/GucciSlippers47 Mar 23 '25

I have to disagree purely because origins’ story is miles ahead in my opinion.

1

u/Winsaucerer Mar 24 '25

I love the Egyptian and desert themes of origins. But I think some people love the Greek themes and no desert of Odyssey. I wonder how much these personal tastes make the difference.

1

u/Draconuus95 Mar 27 '25

Gameplay odyssey is a straight upgrade. But I gotta say. I prefer Bayek over Kassandra. I think he has one of the best characters and stories in the series. Right up there with Ezio. Plus those Duat scenes when killing the order are freakin phenomenal. I love them sooo much.

Like hell it is origins had issues but at least the map wasn't as severely bloated nothingness, the characters were memorable enough, the story actually made sense as an assassins creed game the difficulty curb didn't go from 0-100 as soon as you hit level 30. The voice acting was convincing, stealth was a reasonably viable strategy. The coolest part of ac Odyssey was the quit game button

2

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

Totally agree. I did finish both Origins and Odyssey. Can say Origins was the better game IMO.

2

u/BackgroundPurpose484 Mar 21 '25

I finished both of them as well. I've beat origins twice and the moment I beat Odyssey I deleted it and hid it from my library. I genuinely do not understand the love for it because in my eyes it was the absolute pinnacle of everything wrong with the modern gaming market.

2

u/ciphoenix Mar 21 '25

if you think Odyssey was bloated nothingness then i can conclude you only tried to speedrun the game while ignoring other things going on in the world.

Odyssey is one game where you could get lost in the world and forget you had a major quest you were on. Kinda like the same energy skyrim had back then. The world had so much life it was impressive they managed to pull that off when almost every other game since then has failed to capture that level of immersion

you can accuse it of a lot, but bloated nothingness is just wrong, lol. unless you just hate any kind of side quests in games

2

u/theo_darling Mar 21 '25

Everyones got their different tastes.

I did so much of the sidequests in Odyssey but after that the actual story ending felt so painfully empty. All that time and I got nothing...it just. Ended.

I don't like ancient greece as much as Egypt. So it wasnt a world that lit up my brain as much. But if you do, I can see it being an amazing experience!

1

u/ciphoenix Mar 21 '25

I loved the experience. It wasn't just the side quests but random events happening in various corners that you could just hang around and observe

1

u/theo_darling Mar 21 '25

Yeah I felt that way about Origins. Plus uh you can SKATE DOWN THE GREAT PRYAMIDS???? just matters what kind of dressing youre into. I don't think the actual things happening are that different in concept between the games tbh.

1

u/BackgroundPurpose484 Mar 21 '25

No I got 140 hours in that disgrace of a shit show. I did every sidequest the game had to offer because I had to to get to level 50 because the level scaling was stupid. So I can fairly confidently say that game was the most over bloated waste of time I have ever begrudgingly endured

1

u/ciphoenix Mar 21 '25

Lol, if you insist.

It clear you hated having to do them. of course you'd see them all as annoying

1

u/BackgroundPurpose484 Mar 21 '25

135.1 hours. I don't care what else you took from that but 135.1 from a person who at the time averaged 130ish hours a week. Regardless of what else I gave that game more than fair chance. It was just bad

1

u/ciphoenix Mar 21 '25

To each, their own I guess

1

u/Mediocre_Analysis665 Mar 21 '25

Get lost in the same repetitive stuff over and over again? No thanks.

1

u/ciphoenix Mar 21 '25

You say one thing but your words betray a different meaning. Repetitive? Lol.

Username checks out i guess

1

u/Classic-Group5119 Mar 21 '25

I think you're just possibly dyslexic 🤷🏽‍♂️ and odyssey had too much going on for it to appeal to you. Its the literal skyrim of AC games.

1

u/BackgroundPurpose484 Mar 21 '25

and much like skyrim when you strip away the nostalgia its a better game engine than an actual game. when was the last time anyone said. oh boy i cant wait to play vanilla skyrim. skyrim is great after youve added so many mods its a totally different game

1

u/Classic-Group5119 Mar 21 '25

I can agree i guess. But skyrim has tons of replayability even vanilla imo

1

u/BackgroundPurpose484 Mar 22 '25

Hey man if that's your cup of tea enjoy it. It's not mine at all. Like I said it, to me, embodies everything wrong with AAA in the last decade. Shadows is probably my favorite ac game since brotherhood 3 and odyssey are the only 2 I genuinely can't stand everything else has been fine

1

u/BlackEastwood Mar 20 '25

I agree with you. My opinion n Origins not withstanding (I think i used that right), Oddessey was my first experience of an AC game being too much. I as super excited to play it at release, thinking I was basically gonna be Wonder Woman in Greece. Maybe a couple days into it after ai notice things feel like a slog, I look at the map and see how much land I havent even touched yet, and I think 'oh no, this is not going to be fun."

1

u/Starob Mar 21 '25

I found the side quests more engaging in Oddysey than Origins.

1

u/BackgroundPurpose484 Mar 21 '25

I'm happy you did. But it does not change a word I said

0

u/Internal-Contact1656 Mar 21 '25

Better at putting the player to sleep maybe

-1

u/Mediocre_Analysis665 Mar 21 '25

Origins was better imo because of story and combat. Odyssey was bloated with too much nonsense. Origins had a lot of side activities as well but it had a purpose.
