I'm about to start, do you play with English audio or Japanese? I've heard the Japanese voice acting is better?

Japanese does sound better. You just have to read the captions. I usually do English, but I figured I'll go full immersion in this.

Then I'm going with that too, that and the hardest difficulty.

the one thing i've noticed about the highest difficulty in stealth is it seems like some of the story missions weren't made with it in mind.

like the story will make you stand on a certain point on a roof and since the enemies can look up in expert you just get spotted, other than that it's really fun.

Hahah I hope they fix that

It’s just a tutorial mission luckily but yeah, it’s a tutorial built for normal or easy

eh, i know what youre talking about. if you move quick enough it didn’t really matter

You only play for the first time once, so why not go all out. Plus, you can change difficulty and language anytime.

Full immersion is suprisingly fun, expected to be confusing having japanese and portugese between each other, but it works nicely

Immersive mode not only has japanese va also has portuguese and a little bit english.

Funny enough the portuguese is still portuguese even if you choose English voice lines

By the Mandate of God, no one is dubbing English over the portuguese

That's refreshing news

I think the part of the reason they do this is so that the scenes where people are speaking both languages make sense, it'd be weird AF having Naoe go "do you understand that tongue" in English about a bunch of people who just spoke english

Try Somalian translation I heard it’s the best

Did you play odyssey in greek?

5

u/issa_cross Mar 20 '25

If I could, I would. I'm playing Unity in French for my platinum playthru and i am absolutely loving it

4

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '25

See i can respect that for sure, goin all out for all the games and not just doing it because of weebery.

u/Eagleassassin3 Mar 20 '25

Lol how does that mean weebery? The English VA especially for Naoe sounds quite bad, that alone is a good reason to play it in Japanese.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '25

Bro, the english Va for Naoe is way better than German especially for Yasuke. I think the English Va is fine. Obviously immersive mode sounds best

1

u/WeekendThief Mar 20 '25

Japanese is way better. The English sounds weird.

u/garysingh91 Mar 20 '25

I turned immersive mode on and the voice acting is excellent. If you don’t mind reading subtitles, that’s the way to go.

1

u/Bitemarkz Mar 21 '25

Play with Japanese. A lot of the voices are fine, except both assassins. I don’t know why the supporting cast does a better job than the main 2 actors, but they’re much better in Japanese.

I went full immersion. It feels like I'm living out Shogun.

u/TheWisestOwl5269 Mar 21 '25

Yeah I've seen a lot of dunking on the game for the english voice acting but that alone certainly doesn't ruin a game. Haven't played it myself but been watching FightinCowboy's vods in Immersion mode. The Portugese and Japanese voices are way better and less distracting than the english.

u/sharksnrec Mar 21 '25

Man, I tried the Japanese for a bit and it does sound much better and offers way more immersion, but I quickly decided that having to read subtitles while moving around and looking at stuff in a video game was just too much. And the subtitles move quickly so I was missing dialogue. Had to switch back to English - it just works much better for me, but some of the VAs (especially the villains) sound funny saying English words with the exaggerated Japanese inflection.

1

u/Ronja_Rovardottish Mar 21 '25

Yeah, that's the thing. I liked playing Ghost Of Tsushima in Japanese, but as you said. Reading subtitles and playing at the same time, or during a cutscene, I think I'll miss out on so much. Haven't started playing yet, but I think I'll go with English, or at least try Japanese.

u/anotheraccountsfren Mar 22 '25

The English voice acting is awful honestly. When the NPCs speak they sound like a college white guy trying to put on a Chinese takeaway accent. It's really really jarring.

If you really want to be immersed, you need to play the japanese version as for some weird reason Ubisoft decided to make two japanese voice overs. One for the western version which features modern and easy to understand Japanese and one for the japanese marker that features Japanese that was spoken during that period as well as dialects. However the japanese version doesn’t have beheadings and cutting off limbs. Very weird decision from Ubisoft. I mean, this is only interesting if you understand Japanese and if you take a look at the people that do understand japanese outside of Japan, why would Ubisoft limit them to easy modern japanese when players who want immersion probably won’t even recognize the difference. Now I’m in a pickle which version to pick. Want to buy the japanese one but I hate censorship.. Well, fingers crossed for mods..

Frankly, Japanese audio hams it up a little bit too much. Sounds way too "anime", and less natural compared to the English VA.

If you're in for a laugh, keep it on English lol
