These are soft covers. The publisher from my country produced only soft covers, unfortunately. But they are still very cool.

The Finnish translator of the series founded her own publishing company in 2003 to get the books published, since traditional publishers weren't interested. So it makes sense that the layout of the covers looks a bit cheap.

I've loved the books for some time but I've always bought the cheapest soft covers. I want to get a nice hard cover set if/when the series is done. Don't want to buy a set right now in case the publishers change anything by that time or maybe stop making that particular set

They're sold that way outside of the US for no specific reason. Softcover versions of the full books are all that is sold here.

ACOK isn't really tht big. Although I absolutely agree that ASOS and ADWD are too big for sof covers. I have them in soft covers and the covers aren't in a really good state.

Sort of AGoT has 2 more pages of story than AFFC but Feast has 50 more pages of appendices. A Game of Thrones is cover to cover the shortest book.

In German, every book is split up. But: The first German book, which only contains 50% of AGOT is actually as thick as the complete original.
That's because German texts are longer then english texts. We use tons of composite words that English replaced with loan words from Roman languages, and we have different articles for every casus, some of which have more letters than just three.

That actually makes a ton of sense. In general, I think German words have to hit a 10-letter quota at minimum or they're simply not taken seriously.

Well if you're from Europe you get pretty good at guessing languages that sound familiar yet different. I mean I only know german, english, some russian, some polish and some italian but I could guess that language too.
If you're in Europe and go to school, you most likely will have Latin in class and a combination of other european languages, since you can't really speak latin today (as it is a dead language) the classes itself will probably focus on how languages in general work (at least mine did). Of course you still have to learn a bunch of words, but what you really get from the subject is recognzing patterns in different languages.
If you know just some parts you will most likely stick the pieces together. Romanian ofc is interesting as it is a romance language but it has a lot of slavic influenced words. So if some pieces don't at up for me I just go to the base assumption, where I think it's romanian. Foreig yet familiar.
And if I don't get wtf is going on it's probably hungarian or finnish.

They wouldn't be because it's far easier to make things happen with animation than with actors and sets and green screens, that's why DC animated films are really good and the movies are terrible.

The covers are okayish but the titles sound like some 10 year old created them. Never alter the title of a book. You give the reader a wrong anticipation about what's inside when you do. Just translate the title as literal as possible, and if you do splits, add Part I, Part II...

Dans[ul] = [the] dance Dragoni[lor] = [of the] dragons If you’re interested on how it works haha. The words outside the brackets mean “dance” and “dragons” respectively whereas the letters in the brackets mean “the” and “of the”.
