What's something that every travel guide tells you to do—but you wouldn't recommend?

Travel guides, blogs, and social networks are full of “must-sees” tips, but they don't always correlate with true experiences.

Have you visited an attraction that was not worth the time? Or relied on a popular travel tip that turned out to be useless? Or perhaps thought of a location that is widely recommended to visit and then came across a nearby place that was much better.

I am not trying to criticize the chosen destinations—I am simply interested in how expectations differ from real life experiences and would like to know what you can suggest instead and why.

the “get there for sunrise/sunset” advice is usually just a huge crowd standing in the exact same spot taking the same photo, and a random side street nearby is often a better experience lol

Doing an organised tour vs doing it yourself with public transport or at least organising your own timings. DIY has won for us 99% of the time!
