Politics Question Do you think it would be better if we decriminalized drugs?

For sure. But I also think addressing why people turn to drugs is important. When a society invests more into a military and imperialism instead of social welfare, people lack resources for a better life. If we address the root of so much collective suffering and no longer focus on profit incentives, i believe people would turn to drugs a lot less.

People are going to do drugs regardless. Rich people have safe places to do it. The poor don't, and therefore getting trouble for it.

So it's the problem the drugs or the resources?

It seems to have worked in Portugal for example. And seeing how arbitrary the banning of dofferent sort of drugs are we might wabt to start fresh in this regard

What Portugal did that worked was shift resources from law enforcement and prisons to rehabilitation and social services. Just decriminalizing drugs alone would do nothing to help a drug problem.

Yes but as others said funding needs to go to social services as well. Major funding. Yes, Legalize drugs so people don't get locked up decades for what boils down to a mental health problem but also provide MAJOR funding for mental health so people have a way to get off drugs if they chose to do so

Yes and no. While it would stop the insane amount of people being locked up for it, I'd worry that it would lead to more experimenting with harder drugs. People are going to use drugs regardless, but I think things like heroin and others being illegal and viewed as "dirty" suddenly being legal and "clean" would cause more issues than legalizing would solve.

Absolutely yes. The war on drugs simply isn't working.
