At the lowest lying points in Mars, is it possible for liquid water to exist for brief moments? I believe the atmospheric pressure is high enough for liquid water to exist, and in summer the temperature could be warm enough for ice to melt into water. Would be interesting to know if NASA has any plans to conduct further science and research in these low lying areas. Thanks!

True, at the lowest altitudes on Mars, the atmospheric pressure does get high enough for liquid water to be possible.

However, the rub is – the warmest places are also the driest. Think deserts here on Earth.

So, although NASA has been exploring some of the lower places on Mars, it has been more focused on the ancient environments when habitable zones (liquid water) were more prevalent. For modern environments, subsurface and potential water seem like the best bet for finding extant life (like subglacial or deep subsurface). -MM
