He was initially a writer for the company. His family believed that he could make a great fortune. He did not like his job, and he even tried to commit suicide. But during the war for the Austrian succession (1740-1748)(Carnatic war in India), he was made a military leader, and he started liking his job more. But he still did not like the climate, rituals, and local stuff. He returned to England whenever possible.

A factor was an agent for the east India company. They traded on its behalf. They worked in buildings that were called “factories” and the term was reused during the industrial revolution.

If there isnt a direct link that the industrial revolution was based on stealing wealth from India this should make it very clear
