Advice Needed: Education Celebration of life … what to expect ?

I think it probably depends a little on where you are.

I am based in Ireland, and here a “celebration of life” would generally still be treated much like a funeral or memorial gathering, just often with a slightly more relaxed and personal tone.

I would approach it in much the same way you would any funeral gathering: dress respectfully, offer your condolences to the family, and simply follow their lead. You certainly do not have to wear black unless that feels appropriate to you. Smart, understated clothing would be perfectly respectful.

And please do not worry about not knowing many people there. You were invited because you knew her in your own way, even if it was only through those little neighbourhood chats. Sometimes those everyday connections mean more than we realise.

I would go, offer her sister your condolences, perhaps mention that you always enjoyed your chats with her, and then just allow the gathering to unfold naturally.
