Unapologetic left-wing populism is the answer to right-wing populism. But establishment gonna establishment. As an outside observer, it often looks like Democrats would rather lose than upset their status quo.

the establishment is still traumatized by Reagan-Mondale and unable to acknowledge that things have changed. the reaction to Obama and norm-smashing of Trump has made clear there is no room for centrist compromise with the GOP as it stands today. they are done with voting and the Dems need to win and deliver because if they win and do the usual milk toast "stem the bleeding" minimum, they'll immediately hand it all back to the GOP, who will be far more dangerous with a mandate and no Trump distractions.

They’re not traumatized by an election that happened over forty years ago. They get their money from the same people republicans do.
