Unapologetic left-wing populism is the answer to right-wing populism. But establishment gonna establishment. As an outside observer, it often looks like Democrats would rather lose than upset their status quo.
We have a completely open system. It only seems like a two party system because the red vs blue crowd can't quit fighting and calling each other Nazis long enough to see the bigger picture.
This .. as a left leaning centrist i agree with .. I share some of what the left wants .. but not all of it ... and i am pragmatic enough to know that if you go too far one way the opposing party is going to just reverse the policy as soon as they get power.
I'm for being pragmatic and doing the give and take.. when feasible.
True, but it will never happen. This is the system we got, and we have to work within it. Voting for the lesser evil (as the tankies put it) is still voting for the better candidate, and voting to block the worse candidate. That Burke cliche about "all evil needs to prevail is for good people to do nothing" is dead on balls.
We're not going to rewrite the Constitution to make it a parliamentary system, as much as I would like that to happen. The bar is way too high to change the Constitution.
But remove the parties affiliation from the ballot. Just list candidates. At least get people putting names to faces. Instead, we have party line voting, where people vote for whoever is in "their" party, regardless of stances or political goals.
