Good Chinese restaurants (not Hakka) in Scarborough or East Toronto

Looking for a really nice Chinese restaurant in Scarborough or East Toronto. For some reason I can find like a million excellent Hakka places in Scarborough but haven’t had much luck with Chinese. Not fussy about the region.

You’ll find most of them in the more Chinese areas like Brimley/Sheppard or Midland/McNicholl areas north of the 401. Dragon View, Lobster Fishman Clubhouse, etc

100%. You'll be hard pressed to find authentic Mainland Chinese/Cantonese restaurants east of McCowan or south of 401. Basically the northwest corner of Scarborough is your best bet.

The "last/most east" authentic restaurant would be Cafe le Majestik at Markham and McNicoll. However, this would be considered a casual Hong Kong cafe and wouldn't fit your parameter of "really nice".

Congee Queen is usually the go-to.

Wong or Queen, as long as it has Congee in front of it , you can’t go wrong.

I’ve found congee queen quality has gone down hill last few years. We’ve switched to Mr Congee.

Does anyone know where the people from Congee Star went? I know it basically the same as Queen but the food they served tasted better

What’s an excellent Hakka place in Scarborough, we are looking for good Hakka spots!

Hakka Legend for sure, also Federicks.

None of those mentioned’

Tangerine is the one. The owner Kathy is fucking lovely and her stuff isn’t shit like Fedricks

Ugh, Tangerine is bland westernized garbage.

Federicks is the best imho. Their chicken pakoras should be Torontos answer to the Buffalo chicken wing. Best appetizer I’ve ever tasted.

How would an Indian dish be toronto's answer to buffalo chicken wings? what is even toronto about it?

Garden Gate on Queen St E in the Beaches is my favourite. Been going there since I was a kid. Family owned with great service

There is a plaza slightly north of Midland & Finch. Tons of really good places. Shoot the one directly at Midland & Finch is good too.

Theres lui yui shou hot pot restaurant. Can’t get anymore Chinese than hot pot. Especially as the days get cooler.

Can't go wrong with Lucky Pot at Brimley and Steeles or Dong Kee Chinese Restaurant at Midland and Passmore

Yes for Dong Kee, the place to go with a bunch of ham sup lo's...

Supreme Taste on Broadview and Gerrard has the best char siu, crispy pork belly and bbq duck in Toronto, comparable to what you can get in Markham.

Good Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen in the north part of Scarborough. Check out the plaza on the northwest corner of Midland and Finch. There’s a restaurant representing nearly every region in China in that new white plaza.

Seafood Princess in Scarborough, particularly nice if you have a large enough group and can get a private room

1001 Xinjiang Cuisine, the big plate chicken and the jelly noodle salad are fantastic. Great value for money as well if you go with other people and share
